D&D 5E What Magic Item do you want to see most in the DMG?

wow could not disagree with you more, but I guess that is just opionon diffrences...

Yes, difference of opinion.

um... how is "I roll a 20 and kill the Orc" any worse then "I use spell X and Orc dies"? I really really want those two items back... but I guess again it is just opionon diffrences to style here..

Severing limbs on players is horrible and no fun for anyone. Killing a common orc sure no biggie, but having the fighter get a lucky 20 on the first swing against the main bad guy the party has been working towards all campaign that is pretty anti-climatic, it would also suck being on the receiving end of that sword swing your mighty hero dies instantly and nothing can be done about it.

AHHHH!!! no... just no. That would kill 5e for me or any other game.
because in game each and every suit is different. some people wear leather armor for 20 levels... and ALOT choose not to up grade past X type.
what should he find in it's place?

What would I want in place of a suit of leather armor +1, a suit of non-magical studded leather and a copper piece because that has more value.

The way this edition designed armor is just horrible, there is only 1 or 2 usable choices per tier.

I can't even get close to wraping my mind around this... each armor is different... what do you mean?

I would like to see some new items that are interesting. Of course the old stalwarts are going to be there or can be converted. New stuff is where it is at.

I mean a suit of leather armor +1, gives the same AC as a suit of non magical studded leather. I don't know how I can be clearer. The only difference is 3 lbs, and the look of the armor. A DM might interpret a druids unwillingness to wear metal armor as to cover studded leather, but an open minded DM is willing to allow bone or other materials to be the studs.

So if some NPC was like I will trade this "magic" item for a 100 gp gem, I would laugh at him, purchase a suit a studded leather and have 55 gold left to drink and make merry.

An added benefit of the mundane studded leather vs the magical leather armor +1, the mundane armor has a higher AC while under the effects of an antimagic field, so when in a fight with a beholder the magic armor is worse than the 45 gp off the rack studded armor.

A purely fluff reason, I am sure I can get an armor merchant to customize a suit of studded leather, the magic armor only has one look and not so easy to change.

I will admite that I have not yet gotten to play since the playtest stuff, but doesn't each class have there own prof so a wizard making armor for people able to use different armors... and if you use encombrence (atleast in playtest) low str rogues really need magic leather, because 3lbs matter

I like how the Gauntlets of Ogre Power set your Str at 19 rather than giving a bonus. That's a great way to avoid item cheese. So more stuff like that, I guess.

I like this as well, at least for Gauntlets.

I hope that Cloak and Boots of Elvenkind are no longer just a bland add to the Stealth skill. They were cool back in the day. But if they are also Dex 19, only useable for Stealth, it will be disappointing.

Back to the OP's question, the list for good magic items that I am looking forward to is so long, that I cannot even write it down. Cool staves and rings, worthwhile fly items, intelligent weapons, horn of valhalla, mithral armor, figurines of wondrous power, the list goes on and on. And removing the concept of every PC having magical boots, belt, and gloves. Each item that a PC has should either be +x weapon/armor (possibly with riders), or something else cool. Boots of Striding and Springing? Meh.

Armor proficiency comes in categories of light, medium, and heavy. If you are proficient with light armor you are proficient with all types of light armor.

Encumbrance by default is 15 pounds per strength point. So even a low strength 8 rogue, has 120 lbs to work with of which 3 lbs is a drop in a bucket. If the DM chooses to use a variant encumbrance system presented penalties start if you exceed 5 times your strength score so for that 8 str rogue after carrying 40 lbs, 3 lbs matters more here but I would argue still not enough considering that most of a rogues other gear is pretty light.
