D&D 4E Who's still playing 4E

I feel your pain. Pathfinder/3.x is a very popular version of the D&D. It's not my cup of tea wither and I really don't understand it but it is what it is.

I ended my last 4e game about 16-17 months ago and started playing 5e. I like 5e. It's a nice game but I am starting to get the 4e itch again and I am afraid I won't be able to find any players for it. I will try however.

Yeah, I'm stuck in a 5e game, which people are unenthusiastic about, but we're stuck with ONE player that won't play anything else.

In the nicest possible way I would tell that player where the door is, and to be sure not to let the door hit them in the glutes on the way out ;)

I have never understood that mentality. I like to try all kinds of different games. I may not like everything, but I do like variety.

Well, he's my brother-in-law, so that ain't happening. I don't really think its a case of being really hostile to 4e, he just doesn't like to get into new games. He'd just as soon play 3.5 E6 forever. My sister cajoled him into trying 5e on the "its not that different" theory, but 4e was just a bridge too far. Problem is of course, that means the rest of the group will just keep playing 5e, although most of them have had fun in my 4e campaigns before (but the other people that were in those aren't currently around, so its kinda derailed at this point).

I guess I'm going to run either some Traveller or d6 Space, or something like that. I think I can get him interested in that, he's played those before.

The DW game that I'm running on here with a few of my home game players will be switching over to 4e for some Epic Tier continuation of the unfolding game (that is assuming no TPK in the Far Realm BBEG showdown that is going on right now). There is some "still playing 4e" for the faithful.

I know that I have been procuring the 4E books in pdf form off dndclassics.com They now have the Heroes of the Forgotten Kingdoms available. I'm waiting as patiently as I can for Heroes of the Fallen Lands (of which I already have two print copies) and both Monster Vaults.

Me and my group (I'm the main DM), we're still playing 4e. Since 2010.

Currently at level 17.

Every new campaign, we try a different 4e setting and I add a new (houserules) twist to it, sort of like a mini expansion.

We -- somewhat recently -- converted our old, on-hiatus 14th level 4e campaign to 5e for the big, ecclesiastical Communist revolution finale. The consensus was 4e is too technical for our tastes (right now). It's a good system that showed some real innovation and impressive design finesse -- but it just wasn't the right tool for the job. Plus, I could never run it as well as I would have liked.

That said, there were elements of its mechanics that really helped establish the PCs personalities, in ways I'm sure the designers would never have imagined.
