SCAG Thread

I am not one of those people who believe the sky is falling however. I am simply basing my assumption on the reasoning behind story origins. As such, I highly doubt that this book will be legal for all story origins (if it were it makes a precedent contrary to the story origin mechanic). With that being said, I see the book being added to the DM rules section as a prrmenent fixture for DMs. I also see some excerpts being evergreen (the list of deities and their domains in particular).

There's a difference between finding enjoyment in discourse and heading straight to the worst case scenario, throwing ones hands up in the air, and decrying the whole debacle as an object failure--which tends to be the trend.
I concur. I prefer to take the approach of hoping for the best, while expecting the worst. That way, anything in the middle is a piece of cake. It's the method to my madness.

While my criticism may sometimes sound scathing, I merely try to point out things that I'd like to see change for the sake of AL longevity. I want AL to succeed, as organizing and running it has helped open the door to a potential job opportunity at my FLGS. All of the rampant AL naysayers tend to be part of the "home game master race," who think that houseruled home game is the only "real D&D."

But I digress...

In a little over 6 days, we'll hopefully find out WotC's stance, and the speculation comes to an end.

I'd have an easier time expecting the best if AL hadn't already trained me to expect them to instead go in the most restrictive direction possible, regardless of how much or how little sense it makes.

IMHO the SCAG can't really be compared to an adventure, even if they added a marketing blurb stating how well it plays with rage of demons.

I think you'll all be pretty pleased with the official Adventurers League statement on the contents of the book. I know that folks are pretty excited to start using those options, and I wanted to thank everyone for remaining cool with us while we wait for the book to be released to all venues -- we don't want this to appear like a "pay to play/win/excel" scenario. There's something to be said about not wanting to spoil content, too.

I... wow. Okay, I am feeling exceptionally cynical about AL lately. I am sorry. I very much hope that the announcement of AL's rule on SCAG reduces that.

But as long as you're expecting people to spend hundreds of dollars to go to conventions to get certs and access to some adventures, you're aggressively going to fail to convince me that "avoiding pay to win" is an active goal of AL administration.

I'd much rather see "support your FLGS to win" than "buy a plane ticket and weekend con pass to win."

Sorry to hear that you feel that way - but I know that you're not alone in that sentiment.

Suffice it to say that it's an ongoing conversation between us, the players/DMs, and the team in the office. If you have specific thoughts on it, drop me a line on Facebook or at community@dndadventurersleague.org.

Back on the SCAG track, though... bladesingers, man, bladesingers. I remember wanting to play them SO badly back in second edition... and then third edition (even though to make what I thought was a solid build required like 4 stinkin' books)... fourth had an interesting take.

Looks like I'm making a new character soon. Dex + Int to Armor Class? OK!

Because if there's a phrase that accurately describes the extent of our restrictions, its definitely "oppressively restrictive".
