D&D 5E [IC] Creamsteak's Princes of Elemental Evil

Assuming that we are heading back and that Thaliss is riding with Savra, Thaliss will telepathically ask her what she thinks the likelihood is that the tower's vultures were used to further this false god's agenda.

Edit: note that Thaliss converted his sorcery points into a first level spell slot while on the ground.

Savra insists on riding separately. She seems to lead the way towards the tower in a bit of a hurry.

The party returns to the party, finding that the servants have mostly cleaned up the mess. Seeing you traipsing in with the manticore's head, he seems a bit impressed. He relinquishes the ring he mentioned (worth 250 gp).

"Well, your deeds seem to match your words. Good work. Thaliss, may I speak to you in private... at the pinnacle or in my quarters?"

"Well, your deeds seem to match your words. Good work. Thaliss, may I speak to you in private... at the pinnacle or in my quarters?"

"I would be honoured. However, I fully trust my companions, and want them to be present during our discussion" Thaliss replies.

Telepathically to his companions, Thaliss says the plot thickens. Perhaps we'll learn more, or perhaps they want to separate us for an ambush

Oh... we're companions now? Tolan thought to himself. He wondered if other nobles referred to their retainers as companions. He wondered yet again about the half-elf's cowardice. If they wanted to ambush them, they had them clearly outnumbered in the Spire.

As per usual, in this situation, Maighan keeps a quiet vigil...she's particularly interested in Savra's reaction to Aak's revelations...and on seeing if the leader of these sky knights is sending any quiet signals to his followers as he speaks. Meaningful glances, quick gestures...any sign that he is plotting treachery.

Thurl seems to glance back at your party. "You may tell your followers what you will afterwards, but I would not speak of as much too openly."

[sblock=Meighan]As Thurl glances back, you definitely notice his glance lingers on you specifically. He seems worried, possibly distracted, and not necessarily treacherous.[/sblock]

"My Lord," Maighan says demurely, "you are gracious as ever to ask for us to be included...but the affairs of the nobility are quite over my head. With your permission...I would ask to remain outside as you speak of such matters?"

She's not sure if Thaliss can 'hear' her mental reply, but she tries anyway...

I feel it may be me in particular he wishes to exclude. Let us see what they do.

The view of the night's sky at the pinnacle is quite impressive. While the valley below is full of fog, the stars above are clear and bright. Thurl has his hands clasped behind his back, not making eye contact. "Great evil lurks among these hills," he says. "Depraved cultists led by wretched monsters."

He pauses and turns. "Thaliss of house Eviastarim, you have accomplished much in your days. You have done more in such a short time than I have in all my days. You have nobly battled against these very cults, and you have proven yourself to me this night. You may not realize it, but you have already struck blows against a great darkness that seeks to envelop us all."

He examines your expression, but then turns to face the valley again.

"How long have you truly known your 'retainers?' Do you trust them? Have you not traded in one set of allies for another only recently? I suspect that there is a game in play, and you are one of pieces. Many would try to use you to their own nefarious ends."

He begins to circle the pinnacle talking mostly to himself. "There is a group of these cultists that is gathering strength. They call themselves the Circle of the Scarlet Moon, but this is a farce. They are cultists of elemental fire. They are gathering as we speak, claiming that by enacting the 'Rite of the Wicker Giant' they will restore peace and prosperity to the entire Dessarin Valley. This is a lie. They wish to see this world burn. Further, I believe that your follower... this Maighan... is one of them. She is undoubtedly here to misdirect you. To keep you away from the cults activities. To keep watch of you."

He stops in front of the spyglass that is pointed down at the valley. He looks at Thaliss sternly, as if to gauge whether these words were believed.

Thaliss apparently ponders Thurls words. He has said many things, some of which the sorcerer feels are traps he does not want to fall into.

Looking at the commander straight in the eyes, Thaliss says "Commander Thurl, I appreciate your concern about my retainers. They indeed have been my companions for a relatively short time, but as you have acknowledged, we have done more in this time than most during their lifetimes. We have fought together; I've protected their backs, and they have mine." He takes a break from the man's gaze to look at the valley then the sky, and continues "As for the beautiful Maighan, she is indeed a more recent addition to our group, but has proved herself worthy. Can you tell the source of your suspicion that she is aligned with this fire cult? You say this is obvious, how so?" Looking back at the man, Thaliss adds "And can you tell me more about the great darkness that seeks to envelop us all that we have dealt a blow to?"
