D&D 5E Why I Changed My Mind About Third Party Books

And here are the 5th-Edition Conversions

A1/2/3 are the more sandboxy and put together provide alot of adventuring opportunity in the region. A4 and beyond become a bit more focused. A0 and A1 have alot of little subplots going on within the starting village/town and their respective inhabitants that are not related to the larger plot.

Are we specifically talking about DnD 3rd party stuff or can we include stuff like Monte Cooks Numenera/The Strange/No Thank You Evil range and the record breaking Seven Seas 2nd Edition?

Those are different RPG systems and a few of them are not 3pp as such, Numenera is 1pp for MCG.

Kobold Press has a current Kickstarter that looks awesome (I backed it). It is a book on Demon Cults and Secret Societies.

Also Nord Games previously had a Kickstarter that is over but you can pre-order the book. It contains variants of gnolls, orcs, kobolds, goblins, bugbears, ogres, hobgoblins, trolls, etc.

Also as has been mentioned, Tome of Beasts is awesome

Some people consider DnD Clones to be "different RPG systems" as well.

Thats fine but alot of those are not even the same genre.

The D&D clones are basically D&D with the serial numbers filed off. Most of the good ones also worked on Pathfinder or the clones as well and are now supporting 5E or converting PF stuff to 5E (Kobold Press, Frog God Games, Troll Lord Games).

If those companies are making actual 5E product sure put it up.

What sort of levels are you looking at?Do you want a book with several smaller adventures in it a larger adventure?

I really like the 4th edition book with small adventures for each level and used half of those during that time. I would like to see more LMoPhandelver type modules, maybe levels 1-4 or even 4-8, 9-12, I don't think I would play much higher than that. Some of the mid and higher levels could take a small module all by itself and I could string several together for a campaign. I always liked Dungeon Magazine and having something like this would be great, maybe DMsGuild is more taking that place.

I do not know that print modules from 3pp are dead except in the larger $40 or more fundraising books on monsters or starter adventures. Small cheaper $5-$20 modules are most likely dead unless I print on demand.

I use pdfs and just print adventures.

Assault on Blacktooth Ridge is for level 1 to 3 has a mini campaign setting in it with villages. Its like L MoP in thar respect.

Quests of Doom volume 1 and 2 are mostly in that level range and are available in print.

Great Thread! I used to try and run my home games like AL. Official only. It took me until I read Cubicle 7s Adventures in Middle-Earth Players Guide to realize what a disservice I was doing to myself and my players. The system is great, and people collaborating to add to it is great.

There is only one problem: how do I justify buying all the books I want to the wife? I want Volo's, Fifth edition foes, Tome of Beasts, AiME Loremasters Guide...

And that doesn't even include adventures.
