Again leading the group and sneaking forward by himself, Hunter moves cautiously towards the half collapsed palisade. Just as he gets too a good angle to peek inside he hears a loud growling bark of alarm and a large black wolf leaps out for cover and jumps at him ready to strike!!!

Meanwhile, from within the old homestead someone shouts in goblin and more surprised growls and barks can be heard...

As neither of you are surprised Hunter can roll initiative...
Black Wolf [roll0].

The rest of the group is two rounds of Dashing away I would think (that's only like a 120ft back). unless you think you might have been closer?
Everyone can roll initiative and if you have Ranged attacks, etc. you can act next round (unless your Passive Perception is at least a 16)

The large wolf bites at Hunter who is barely able to ward the creature off with his rapier. The rest of the company is somewhat surprised but the sudden animals appearance and attack as Hunter responds...

GM: Black wolf attacks first Attack and damage if it hits: 1D20+3 = [9]+3 = 12; 1D8+1 = [4]+1 = 5.
Hunter's Action next (take your full round).
I use group Initiatives normally so we compare all the hero's Initiatives to the badguys, whoever has the highest, everyone goes on that side first and the other side all goes.
So Goblins Initiative: 1D20+2 = [17]+2 = 19
Once I see everyone's roll we will move onto Round 2

Hunter Brightwood

Dodging out of the way of wolf’s attack, Hunter smiled. He had gotten lucky and hopefully his luck would hold until his allies arrived, he thought to himself as he attempted to plundge his rapier into the snarling black wolf.

OOC:
Attack Roll: 1d20+5 18
Damage if hit: 1d8+3 11

Magen Brigward

"To me!" yells Magen as he presses forward readying his crossbow. He takes aim at the black wolf but his bolt goes wide.

Cursing he shouts to Hunter, "Fall back to us!"
