The first one in that list typically has as many posters as this forum, but the discussions are night and day. There's a lot more sharing of cool stuff or stories, a lot more asking of advice, a heck of a lot more pictures.
Here, there's a lot more debates of the rules. What the best X is, if class or spell Y is good or bad, Unearthed Arcana evaluations, stealth, warlords, and general arguing. There really isn't a lot of people just talking about their game, getting advice, or generally being excited (or happy) about D&D. It doesn't feel like a fan forum for a hobby people love. There's not a lot of joy in these forums.
It seems like there was a lot more of that when 5E was new. What do you think happened? Is there any way to change the dry atmosphere here? I try to do my best by talking about specific adventures, but I haven't really been able game much since last fall, so I don't have current-game stories to share.

I tend to start threads when I have questions. As I have learned the rules, I have had fewer questions. I don't need to ask how to make a Magmin PC race, because I know enough to figure it out for myself. The threads I start now are mostly probably unnecessary, as I tend to answer my own questions myself after a coupe of posts, or crowd projects where I cannot build the breadth of material needed as quickly as I want to. Threads that fit this category include my Random Encounters thread, my "Thousand Disciples" thread, and my recent "Class X as a Warlock" threads.

Other than that, I have mostly let my worldbuilding threads die off since I have slowly found enough confidence in my capabilities to know that whatever I am doing won't destroy the game. Because of this I tend to only get involved in Rules discussion, or poking holes in others arguments if I see a big enough hole to poke at. Assuming I am not a freak of nature, there are others on these threads in a similar position to me, who don't actually need help with the artistic side off things. That said, the few times such a thing does pop up there are some good people in the community that go out of their way just to say "Cool Idea!".

We could discuss an imaginary game and just invent the stories.

That's very convincing.

What this thread needs is more jokes, or at least a high "Laugh with this post" score. How about we try to make this the top "Funniest Thread"? We have 506 to beat.

What we need is a collaborative funny story that never really finishes. I'll start and everyone else can join in.

Throg Throggsonn swaggered into the Painted Pumpkin and growled at the barkeeper. "Hey Jak, a quart of ale for me and ... a thimblefull for the little guy on the stool."

"Hey, for a Gnome I'm pretty big. I even get mistaken for a Dwarf, by people who haven't seen one before" The small form of Gildan Midas said "Anyway, how are the rest of your band of merry men?"

Funny, but, IMO, fantastic considering that DC's TV universe keeps pumping out fantastic stuff, particularly their animated universe stuff. It's just their live action stuff that has... erm... issues? problems? massive suckitude? :D
Yeah. I finally watched BvS, last weekend. The titular characters were almost unrecognizable. I'm pretty sure I just don't like Zach Snyder.

Personally I love Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. Supergirl isn't that bad.
Flash is one of our regular shows. We're a bit behind on Arrow (TiVo is awesome), but mainly because my daughter is whining about trying to catch up to us on Netflix. I liked season 1 of Supergirl, but she's turned into kind of i whiny snot in season 2. Legends didn't really catch my interest, but I didn't hate it; I've got all the episodes sitting on my TiVo, just haven't gotten there, yet.

Even at their worst, though, the DC TV shows are way, way better than the movies at their best.
