Okay, it sucks that you live in a country like that. (Which one?)

But WotC might sell D&D worldwide, but it's really focused on the western world (the USA, Canada, England, etc). They can't let what other countries might think alter their agenda. They can't and shouldn't let the politics and social views of Brazil or Japan or Greece dictate what they include or don't include.

Republic of Georgia (not the US state). And no, WotC, as a company, shouldn't care about people here on a professional level.

D&D Promises to Make the Game More Queer

Yep.

I have been fed a steady diet of fantasy with pantheons and so on and therefore they do not take me out of the game. If we are inspired by Vikings, certainly pantheons make sense. If every other character was transgendered or gay, it would be a distraction to me and perhaps many others. In D&D I am looking for some semblance of previous fiction.

Gotcha. So game designers just need to get you used to it. Good tip - thanks! We’ll increase the inclusiveness even more. :)

So unless I am in it for political reasons, why wouldn't I choose what is more immersive for me?

Because what’s best for you isn’t necessarily right. You would choose inclusive media because you were a good person.

Propagandist phrases:

1. “I wasn’t about to have this book go out and not acknowledge..."
2. "It’s important ... for the game to acknowledge our existence." (Specifically the word "important." I don't included the rest of the quote because the word important standing there alone doesn't make much sense.)

Honestly, this is an minuscule point that's been blown up to the size the Jupiter.

Including gay characters is only propaganda if those characters are required to be portrayed in a certain light; for example, if all gay characters were required to be villains or scumbags, or if they were all required to be paragons of virtue. So far as I can tell, the adventures don't state about a gay NPC that the community thinks highly (or lowly) of them because of their sexuality. It's literally just another character trait like race, sex, appearance, or nation of origin.

Maybe we should establish communal understanding as to what constitutes propaganda before there is further discussion.

By a strict, sterile definition*, I might see how one could label Crawford's decision as potential propaganda. That being said, the modern and more common usage of the word now carries a lot of negative connotations and is typically associated with misinformation, rumors, and lies.

* PROPAGANDA
noun
1. information, ideas, or rumors deliberately spread widely to help or harm a person, group, movement, institution, nation, etc.

I defined my use of the word propaganda several times. To be clear, here it is (and yes, I'm using a sterile meaning of it because a more appropriate term hasn't come to my head yet):

Propaganda: information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote a political cause or point of view.

If they are interested in sales they will appeal to the market. The market wants what it wants.

Thanks for your moral pronouncements. Thanks for letting me know that if I must have certain preferences or I am "wrong."

Where have I heard that before?

I said nothing as to the portrayal of these NPCs - because it is irreverent. I am discussing Crawford's statements not the NPCs. As I have said dozens of times, I have no argument against the inclusion of NPCs, only the motivation behind their origin as professed by Crawford.

I'm going to disagree with this on two parts.

First, I am not a good person. I am a bad, bad man whose only saving grace is that I'm better than a Paladin (an admittedly low bar to clear).

Secondly, you make it sound like eating unflavored oatmeal. I consume media that is awesome. And, IMO, the best-est, most awesome-est media made by the brightest people is inclusive media.

Seriously- if you aren't watching "inclusive media," then you're missing all the best stuff. I don't do it because I'm naturally good, I do it because I'm greedy for awesome content.

Yes, but the evil bit creeps in when when you *object* to inclusiveness in your media. That’s when you stop being a good person and become an evil one.
