D&D 5E Poll: Which do you prefer to play more. A Fighter or a Rogue?

Which do you prefer to play more: Fighters or Rogues?

Fighter over Rogue.
Because Sneak Attack is to conditional and finicky for it's own good, high STR is more fun to RP than high DEX, and the niche protection mechanics of the Thief were a bad idea to begin with.

I voted for the Rogue.

I often multi-class Fighter and Rogue.

I can have fun playing a single-class Rogue in 5e because of the interesting Sub-Class options, and there is so much more variety in how you can play a Rogue.

On the other hand, I would almost never consider playing a single-class Fighter. While it is possible to have fun RPing any character, the game mechanics of the Fighter are absolutely BORING! in my not-so-humble opinion.

It is like the difference between Superman and Batman. I find Batman to be infinitely more interesting than Superman. Superman is a two-dimensional character that does the same old :):):):) over and over. While Batman is a genius millionaire the uses his wits to create the devices he needs to overcome otherwise impossible odds. Actually, I would probably consider Batman more of a Vengeance Paladin mixed with Trickster Rogue, and Superman more of a Devotion Paladin mixed with Champion Fighter.

I voted Rogue.

The Rogue and the Fighter have very different fighting styles, but I find them equally fun. The Fighter is tons of fun... in combat.

But I voted Rogue because they have so many more mechanical features outside of combat. Fighters basically just have Athletics.

Of course you can RP, but you can RP with any character, so that's not a point in favor of Fighters.

Fighter.

But then I've enjoyed playing fighters ever since I picked up this game so many moons ago. Fighters are overall my favorite class throughout the editions.
I think I'll die of old age before I run out of fighter concepts to play. And then I'll get to the multi-class concepts....

Tough one, it feels like there is a lot of problems with fighter in terms of features as in they feel lacking; having said that however the ones I played always pull their weight in a group and are a blast to play, so obviously something is going right with them.

I am going to say fighter. Fighter is more the team player choice (if done right), whereas the rogue promotes selfish/ toxic play styles from players who want to treat the game like a competition.

A thieving roguish assassin. My first character was very much loved. While playing her I grew rather tired of the boys wanting to constantly search me for treasure. (In all honestly I was not being greedy or hoarding the "good stuff". Thieves Honor!) The foul vulgar paladin did nothing to defend the waif and slip of a girl. So during a fight, i set off a nasty poison gas trap, left the room and spiked the door behind me and waited for the lamentations of death to cease before returning to bring back the treasure for the parents of the poor link boys who died and the now fatherless bastards of the inn wenches. (After my administrative fees of course) :p

@Phion

I was going to disagree... but after reading this maybe you have a point...

That said I think such players are still an extreme minority but that's just my opinion with no real supporting evidence.

In AL games I love playing fighters, and I always go with Champion. Simple, straightforward, and great at what it does. The other fighter options are just too limited for my taste, development wise.

My other go-to is the thief. Nobody does sneaking around and getting where they need to go like a thief. And once again, the other Rogue subclasses just wall themselves in conceptually far too much for my enjoyment.

Just curious. How many that picked the about equal option did so because of multiclassing fighter and rogue?

I very rarely multi-class. I just enjoy both classes about equally. They both have fun options, so it really comes down to my mood and what feels right for my character.
