D&D 5E Poll: Which do you prefer to play more. A Fighter or a Rogue?

Which do you prefer to play more: Fighters or Rogues?

I voted fighter. The rogue is great though. I have always found great ease with making roguish fighters. That compares to the tremendous strain trying to make fightery rogues. In fact the latter almost has to MC to get what I want.

To me the fighter is wonderful class, far more interesting than what the rogue became its the latest editions (aka, sneak attack damage dealer rather than a master of retrieving and infiltrating). With its free feats (if you use them) and the right choice of background, I feel even more assasin-y or thief-y with a fighter.
Champion+Dungeon Delver+ Athlete + Criminal Background: your a thief
Battlemaster + Alert + Skulker + Actor + Bounty Hunter Background (or charlatan): assassin

etc

Just curious. How many that picked the about equal option did so because of multiclassing fighter and rogue?

Fighter5/Rogue5 is just a really elegant multiclass; it's on my short list of favorite multiclasses in 5e. The fact that it works so well as a split level might just make it my favorite, period.

If you weren't multiclassing would you have a preference?

Superman is a two-dimensional character that does the same old :):):):) over and over.
Nah, you've just been reading the wrong comics.

Wouldn't call Superman much of a fighter, either. He's not completely unschooled, but his brilliant combat technique isn't exactly what he's admired for, if you catch my drift.

Hiya!

As this is a 5e forum, I picked Fighter. But, if we were talking BECMI/RC...I like Thieves a bit more. Not sure why...they just feel very...well, "thieve'ish" in Basic. Probably due to the d4 for HD! Nothing says "I REALLY want to sneak in, steal the necklace, sneak out...if they catch me, I'm dead" more than being 8th level and having only 21 hp. :)

Ever since World of Warcraft, which I totally blame for the "Rogues are damage dealers" mentality, the whole 'rogue' (re: thief) class has seemed MUCH more like a "specialized light-fighter". The Rogue abilities seem to be focused around "deal damage and avoid damage" in stead of "sneak around and steal stuff". The 5e rogue seems just a TAD better than the 3.x/PF 'striker rogues' for some reason.

Rogue, slightly, since I prefer the sneak attack mechanism over multiple attacks. And expertise, especially at 1st level, is useful for realization of a whole host of concepts. The downside to rogue is that I don't like thieves tools and thieves cant being baked in (should be baked into the Criminal background, IMO, and away from base Rogue). I usually ask the DM if I can substitute them for something else that fits my concept better.

I chose rogue mostly because I like halflings and they make great thieves. We also play using flanking rules, so that makes the rogue better, but also makes the fighter better since the rogue is almost always opposite the fighter.

@Phion

I was going to disagree... but after reading this maybe you have a point...

That said I think such players are still an extreme minority but that's just my opinion with no real supporting evidence.

If I had posted a more accurate NSFW description of how the boys were treating me you would have a different opinion. I believe that Mecha.... has posted about such behavior in the past.
