Wizard vs. Sorcerer: Which one would you rather play? Which would you rather be?

I'm a wizard man myself. Comic for reference. Phenomenal cosmic power is all the sweeter when you've earned it.

Sorcerer has the cooler fluff. Wizard is generally a better class in 5e. I'd rather play a wizard and add story elements more similar to the sorcerer as it's easier to fix the story stuff up however I want than to change the mechanics.

Sorcerer was the first 5e class I ever played.

It may not be as mechanically good as the wizard, it might not get all the spells which I think it should, but I still enjoy the sorcerer more.

The philosophy of wizardly magic is better than the philosophy of sorcerous magic. By that I mean wizard magic is the result of effort, which is then shared throughout the wizard community and ultimately refined via group effort. Where as sorcery is the result of birth or luck (at best, sometimes it is the result of misfortune). And then cultivated by the sorcerer imposing their will upon the world.

I'd rather be a Wizard. My Charisma is unfortunately fairly low so I wouldn't be very powerful as a Sorcerer.

Then shouldn't you be a Wizard's Apprentice? Seems like maybe you've made a poor career decision.

To the OP, personally I'd be better off as a wizard. Software development is close to wizardry, right? When I was younger I would wanted to be sorcerer because you get all the ladies with that high charisma.

As far as PC, it depends on what character I want to play. I don't think either one is enough more powerful than the other for me to base my decision on that.

I'd be a sorcerer any time. There's nothing like low-effort instant gratification! My daddy is a dragon and pays for my education. By the time a wizard begins to understand the rules of magic and use them, I already started to bend them, modify them and invented new ones.

Playing by the (spell)book is for children :p
