I'm generally against magic item buying, but if you want to buy something, here are your options.

Readily Available Consumables:
Potions of Healing (2d4+2): 50gp
Potions of Greater Healing (4d4+4): 100gp
Spell Scroll: Cantrip 30gp
Spell Scroll: Level 1 50gp
Spell Scroll: Level 2 125gp
Spell Scroll: Level 3 300gp
Other Common Potions: 75gp
Uncommon Consumables: 150gp
Common Permanent Items: 100gp

Cool. 500 gp is a lot for a Monk. He doesn’t need much. We’ll say it’s his pay, saved up during the years he was training and only given to him once he attained his rank. I’ll take a look at potions and make a decision.

Thank you for this! Question for my wizard: what is the cost of spells for copying them in his spellbook? It costs 50 gp per spell level to copy to the spellbook, but how much would it cost to get the spell (not the scroll, just the opportunity to copy the spell)?

Is it ok to assume that friendly wizards/mentors/wizard academies would allow this free of charge, with the limiting factor being the cost to copy? Alternatively, would my character need to buy and resell scrolls, and I would assume a 25% cost of the scroll value (scroll purchased at 100% of price, sold at 75%).

I’m gonna take an Elemental Gem. An Emerald. In fact, I’ll take two. An emerald and a sapphire. Each set into an earring. That’ll take up most of my money. They’ll be good “Get out of jail free” cards. If they are readily findable, he will likely buy replacements as he uses them, but who knows if there will be more where he’s going.

I initially mentioned that, but I like my wizard concept now.
