Checking Interest in a PbP Game

I would like to run a 2nd edition game on the board and use Roll 20 for Maps and other visuals.

The players will start at 1st level in the Judges Guild world near the City State of the Invincible Overlord.

This game may go just about anywhere in the 2nd Edition Multiverse: Forgotten Realms, AlQadim, Dark Sun, Spelljammer, Planescape, etc.

Since I do not have 4 hour + blocks of time I cannot run a traditional scheduled game at this time but I can hop online almost every evening for a few minutes and post.

I think I can handle up to 6 players with a minimum of 4. I want to use just the basic 2nd Edition AD&D materials: Players Handbook, DMG, and Monster Manual - no supplements at first. I may introduce other materials as the game progresses depending on where the players and the story take it.

Let me know if you are interested and what class of character you would like to play.

I will check this thread periodically to gauge interest over the next week and make a decision by the evening of Friday March 1st.

Thanks!
Steve

I guess 2nd edition is not very popular around here? To be honest, I'm surprised about that.

I've played 2nd, but it's not my favourite edition by far. Are you open to changing the edition? Depending on interest from others, obviously.

My only hesitation is that I'm not familiar with the setting at all. If that isn't a problem I could be sold on it.

All the games I was in have slowed to a crawl or died completely.

Justin, sorry but 2nd edition is the only one I will run. Never liked any of the subsequent ones.

Greenmtn, I will be using the most basic set of 2nd edition which is readily available elsewhere online (purpleworm). Once we get past character creation and a couple of fights it will be easy.

Both, I would like to have more than 2 players but I can make it work by putting in 2 NPCs that I control. If you know anyone else who might be persuaded to play let them know and direct them here. Let's give it another week and we will see. Meanwhile, look over the materials available on purpleworm.org, just the first three books, I will not be using any of the other books listed there.

Let me know!

How strict are you with level limits and multiclassing? Druid/Bard half-elf or Ftr/Bard were my 2nd ed gotos. (And yeah, they were very MAD combos.)

jmucchiello, I do not use level limits on any race, just don't believe in them, especially the long lived ones. I would like to stick with the stock multiclasses but given enough time a character could dual class to the combinations you like. Actually Fighter/Druid is one of the stock multiclasses allowed for half elves. For the Bard combo I would start with Fighter and go up to a reasonable level (whatever you are comfortable with) and then drop down and dual class with Bard. Again by the rules only humans can dual class but like I said, I don't restrict that. Let me know if you would like to play.
Thanks!

Problem with dual classing is the game would have to last 10 years before I might be able to switch classes. PbP games are VERY slow. And AD&D2 leveling is slow to begin with.

I'll think about joining. (when else can I dust off the old books?) Bard is the important part for me but by the book it can't multiclass. And if I dual class, once I leave bard, there's no going back.

That's fine, I respect that. In fact, 2nd edition was the edition I started with! Still own the PHB.

So I understand you're not restricting multiclassing to humans, but how about dual-classing?

I have no problem with 2nd edition, Just been a while so I'm a little rusty.

I'll brush up a bit. Bigger concern is not knowing anything about the setting, but I can just be "That guy" and ask a lot of questions if needed.
mike peabody this anything you would be interested in?
