Woah that’s an odd take.

Classically, beards are literally the primary source of news and reliably true history and lore in societies that actually have bards. It’s one reason that they held a place of respect in ancient societies.

The bardic tradition has never been known for its accuracy. Most ancient folklore is clearly not true.

"Effectively, their job was to praise their employers and curse those who crossed them."

"Irish society focused largely on a fame or shame mentality. Which one you received largely depended on if the bard liked you or not, therefore, many people would go out of their way to please the bards in the hopes that they would get a song or poem composed about them."

I don't know where you're getting "reliably true history" from. Hell, even the internet, the greatest information tool the world has ever known, can't make the claim of "reliably true".

I'm in the same boat the AngryGM. Gotcha monsters are boring and stupid after the first time. What's more interesting in a troll encounter is use fire, but the cave is full of flammable gas. Have fun! I'd make this clear up front mind you.

@Morrus you know that the people believed their mythology, right? It was passed down generationally as The Truth.

Whether it’s true from the perspective of later outside observers is irrelevant. 🤷‍♂️

If Aesop's Tales and Grimm's Fairy Tales described some sort of objective reality you can be sure that parents in a quasi-medieval society would be making their kids learn them front to back like they were the bloody Bible. There may be a good chance that tales regarding very rare monsters would be wrong or incomplete but for some creatures such tales would probably be surprisingly accurate.
