Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Cleric, Druid, Wizard Options

In another new Unearthed Arcana (these things are coming out fast right now!) the cleric receives a new Divine Domain option: the Twilight Domain; the druid gains a new Druid Circle option: the Circle of Wildfire; and the wizard gains a new Arcane Tradition feature: Onomancy, the magic of true names.

Nah, name lists aren't bloat, they don't burden the system. Mearls ha said that the name lists in Xanathar's are one of the elements they get consistent positive feedback for, amusingly enough. It is a popular feature.

WotC says lots of things, you are too trusting.

This is, quite frankly, garbage.

The favour of the izzet wizard is absolutely spot on if you know it's supposed to taste of izzet wizard. If you expect it to taste of Universalist Mage, it will taste off. Context is everything, especially when it comes to gut reactions.

If this is what WotC actually think, they would be better off rolling a D20 and taking any subclass that scores higher than 14.

Personally, I think (or I hope) they aren't that stupid.
The thing is, Izzet Mage is one of those niche flavors. And WotC is going for broad appeal. If they tell you it’s Izzet Mage the people who think they don’t like Izzet Mage might write it off without bothering to try it. It they just say “here’s something we made, give it a try” without mentioning that it’s Izzet Mage, they can find out if the recipe is good enough that people who don’t normally like Izzet Mage like it too.

Here's the thing: I like, and use, those name lists. Everybody I know IRL likes them. Whenever I see people complain about them online, I see others chime in that they like them. I have zero reason to suspect that WotC is lying when they say their feedback matches my experience.

Exactly, and again, Spore Druid which is super weird did just fine. The Inventor just wasn't good enough.
