Cherry picking and well founded? Nyeh
Look, we're both D&D guys, so it's not our own worldview, but what cherry-picking is she doing? Yes, she needs education to assuage her fears, but as far as she knows, her daughter is engaged in an activity that interacts with "real" demons.

Sincerely held religious beliefs are fine, so long as they don't contradict objective reality. Belief that D&D teaches you actual spellcraft and satanic rituals is not about religion.

Sure, but the game can still be objected to as opening the minds eye to ungodly things (sorcery) and presenting them as if they are good. It's much the same reasoning that was used to preach against TV's - keep your eyes and mind from ungodly things.

I don't agree with that objection obviously - but I do think it's a perfectly reasonable position to take.

Sure, but not the only ones, silly.

Are you athought? Even if they -were- the only other RPG companies, it would enhance the point, not detract.
Your statement of "other companies have all original demons not based in current religious belief" is not true at all.
But hooray for cherry picking.

To be fair, most modern Christians dont know and dont care about individual names in demonology. Probably, most are Bible oriented, which itself only mentions the beliefs of other cultures in passing, and rarely.

But those nerds who do know about this kind of stuff, will find it in D&D.

The entire rest of the game? Like it did for every sane mother who actually looked at it during that era instead of listening to some fear monger.

I think you're arguing from the POV of someone who wasn't really that concerned in the first place. How many of these "sane mothers" were -genuinely- concerned about supernatural demonic entities influencing their kids? I had a "concerned about D&D mom" too, but she was concerned about anti-social behaviour, not genuine demonic behaviour.

It's a hard question, because neither of us come from that worldview, but that doesn't mean we are correct in projecting bad motives.
