Game of Thrones Prequel Cancelled

Rather surprising.

I'm a bit GoTed-out, but I still find myself experiencing a twinge of disappointment. I was more interested in this one rather than the still-in-the-works Targaryen one, mostly because I like the idea of a distinctly different vibe than GoT.

Anyhow...

I saw that myself a while ago. I wonder what the pilot was like that it was so bad HBO canned it? That happened also with the original GoT. It's a shame those pilot episodes are never leaked online, it would be absolutely fascinating to watch huh?

I have no idea why, but maybe it was too different from GoT and they want something a bit closer. Just a hunch, though. As you said, the original GoT pilot evidently sucked but they gave it a shot, so it must be something else than just suckitude.

I'm rather wondering if the backlash over their interview is at least in part responsible for the cancellation of that prequel?

That's my suspicion. Disney had them under contract so could make their life miserable if they wanted to walk.

I guess they don't want this dragging out leading up to RoS.

They basically admitted to winging it and not knowing what they're doing apparently.

They're spinning it but Disney probably wanted them gone for whater reason.

Another reason is them working for the competition.

The Fire & Blood adaptation moving forward isn't surprising. I do wonder if it is at the expense of The Long Night/Age of Heroes, or just a coincidence?

Fire & Blood was okay. Could've used an ending; even for a part 1 of 2, it sort of just trailed off there. I could see it being an exciting spectacle of a TV show, especially once you get to all the Targaryen in-fighting. All the stuff about fighting for their right to incest might make for awkward TV, though.

I'd love to see the original Game of Thrones pilot episode one day. As far as I know, though, not even stills have been released from it.
