D&D 5E Forgotten Realms: Rising from the Last Realms Shaking Event

Murder in Baldur’s Gate, Legacy of the Crystal Shard, Dreams of the Red Wizards: Scourge of the Sword Coast, and Dreams of the Red Wizards: Dead in Thay. They were system-agnostic adventures that came out towards the end of the D&D Next Playtest, and supposedly groups who played it were going to be able to report the outcomes of their play throughs, which would allegedly have an impact on the Sundering metaplot. Nothing really came of that though.
I think they probably got feedback that stopped them from pursuing that whole thing. People just wanted to play in their vision of the Realms and get on with it, I suspect.

But I’m definitely never gonna play a private game that uses the 5e Reams as anything but a grab bag of ideas for continuing to develop my mostly4e era based Realms. 🤷‍♂️

I think I read something on Sageadvice.eu where Ed Greenwood said there would be a 600 page sourcebook for the Forgotten Realms coming to the DM’s Guild sometime next year.
I just can’t remember its title.

EDIT
Found it.

I looked into it. It's not official, it's not 5e, and it won't be published on dmsguild. So its not what I am looking for. Thanks anyways.

That’s not entirely true. They just didn’t make a big fanfare about it.

The majority of groups that played Crystal Shard managed to stop Vaelish from usurping Duvessa Shane in Bryn Shander, which is why she’s still mayor in SKT and he is mentioned as being back in Luskan in SCAG.

The majority of groups that played through Baldur’s Gate wound up with Ravengard as Grand Duke, which is why he’s been in that position in multiple 5e adventures since then.

And so on.

That’s a good point. I guess I just expected, like... something more than that out of it? Like the way they advertised it made it sound like we’d be shaping the story in a major way, not just deciding the fates of a few NPCs. It didn’t help that the Sundering itself wasn’t really explored in gameplay. They made it sound like it was going to be a major event that would play a significant role in the lives of everyone in Toril. But instead it was like “ok, so the Sundering happened, everything is back to the way it was before 4e, no more questions kthnxbye.”

Yeup.

Same mistake they made by not releasing any adventures set during the Spellplague in 4e.

Like, make a new status quo if you must, but help me run a game where the players shape or at least witness how it shakes out!

Yeah, fair enough. It was definitely a missed opportunity in that respect.

That said, Scourge of the Sword Coast has some of the coolest adventure locations ever published in it. Definitely worth checking out just for those!
The Sundering adventures were some of the best adventures I’ve ever read! That’s part of why I was so let down that the whole Sundering thing fizzled out. Actually, Tyranny if Dragons seemed like it was continuing the Sundering Metaplot, and I was pretty hyped for that. Unfortunately the quality was not up to that of the Sundering adventures.

You say that like it's a bad thing, but I would love an official, canon 5e FR encyclopia.

I guess I don't know what you want for FR that hasn't been published already from 2e through the current published stuff? They have all those things from previous editions.

Do you just need/want everything updated to the current year?

Personally I'm stoked for anything coming from the Eric Boyd and Krashos, they're about as Realms Canon as you can get outside of Greenwood himself.
