IMO, all of the pole arms with fancy French names, with designs copied from other pole arms, deserve to lose. Damn frogs think that adding a fleur-de-lis to the back of a glaive makes it special. No, it's just deformed, like an inbred goldfish.

Fauchard = mutant Glaive
Guisarme = mutant Bill Hook
Ranseur = Partisan = Pike with wings
Voulge = so many different shapes over the years, all copies of other pole arms.
Even that is too many categories if you ask me. There should really only be three:
Stabby
Smashy
Hooky

Most smashy and hooky polearms were also stabby, and a few were all three. But it’s all just different combinations of those three features.

I’m not convinced that “choppy” polearms were actually used for chopping. Rather, I’d lump them in with either hooky or slashy (or both). But this isn’t really the place for such a discussion. In the interest in participating with the actual topic of the thread:
