Just because you call something creepy doesn't make it creepy, their is no objective quality to the term creepy. Your just putting down talented artists who doesn't deserve that.

Mod Note:

Let us be clear - folks are free to find whatever qualities they want in art, and say so. If someone finds it creepy, then to them it is creepy - that is a valid opinion to have and to state.

It is NOT valid to tell them that they are incorrect. You don't get to tell people what their experience of art is.

I'll confess I'm not the best at defining the difference, but it is possible to have sexy art that isn't objectifying and to show some skin.

It's similar to the difference between how Wonder Woman and the Amazons were filmed in Wonder Woman and in Justice League. The camera just treats them differently in the two movies, even though they're the same characters.

Their pushing their ideology on the rest of us and making this political, so I'm bowing out of this conversation, besides pointing out that this is why we can't have nice things. Shame they made it political.

No, it was always political, it was just a politics that catered to you.

For sure, it's not like the characters in 5E art are wearing burkas, right?

It should be noted that Caldwell did not paint for young males. He painted for himself. Watch the documentary on Amazon, and you’ll hear the other artists say how Caldwell wanted the most risqué projects, and Caldwell admit to it. I LOVE Caldwell’s art growing up. He was one of my favorites. The way he did gems, and other details was awesome to me.

And I loved the art in general back then. But come on now folks,it’s pretty obvious that as a hetero teenager in the 80’s, it was targeted to my benefit. And to the exclusion of others. Removing cheesecake as the default art style was a good decision. For the game, and for the community.

On a related note, if someone in a thread about a WoTC hire that was a woman is arguing that she only got the job because she was a woman, I’m not going to take your argument seriously if you’re arguing there is nothing wrong about objectifying women in art. Just a heads up.

Actually... I'm fairly sure quite a few of the Human heroes depicted are wearing burka-like clothing items... :)

Not that it matters, of course.

I prefer a bit of variety in my fantasy garments anyway.

Yeah, the interviews with Caldwell in that documentary were deeply uncomfortable: I laughed out loud when he complained about how puritanical and anti-sex the art direction at 80's TSR was, and how they kept editing his work to tone it down...

Eh... Sensuality has always been represented in Human art, for thousands of years in fact. Do I think that we should keep cheesecake? No, I do not. But, let's not bash artists who were only following an ancient tradition.

Slavery, and treating women like property are also ancient traditions. Is that really the reason you want to use here?
Not my point at all. This seems a tad dishonest, no? Did you not actually read my post, I explicitly said that cheesecake should not be incorporated.

Calm down.

Yeah I read your post. You said artists shouldn't be bashed simply for following traditions. There are a lot of abhorrent traditions, and if someone still follows them, then yes. They should be bashed. Depicting other races as inferior or subhuman has also been done for generations. But guess what? An artist doing that now should rightfully be bashed.
