Charlotte and Jmucchiello, I can't help but think we have an opportunity here for a linked backstory, one where both of you ARE champions. The final decision is up to you, but what if you were hidden away, similarly to the princess, but intended to watch over and protect her? A bodyguard or advisor? Sort of like (sorry to reference dc comics or the cw 😝) how Supergirl, Kara Zor-El, was sent to earth to watch over, Superman, Kal El, while he was a youngin. The situation ended up somewhat complicated and she ended up being her own hero, and younger than Kal, even though she started as his older cousin. You could be from the same family ultimately, but have fundamental disagreements...and BOTH be important heroes.

Tglassy, love it. My head is already swirling with potential story hooks. This character will work very well with the concepts I'm thinking. It's a cool idea to me that this is a "prequel" of sorts for this character as well.

Alright. I'm watching for those characters in the rogues gallery. You all, watch for the in character thread to appear with some story prompts in the next few days. Super stoked. Already having a blast with this creative bunch!

Cheers!

It could be. The characters on paper are just stock humans, right?

I kind of like the idea, especially if my character is (for a while anyway) actively denying her fae background. Linking the backstories directly is probably unnecessary. I think the two characters would not have grown up together. The fae powers that be probably have a heavy belief in destiny and thus would just expect the two to meet up in the future somehow.

Stock humans if you want. Feel free to make it more fantastical. Sky's the limit.

Happy to see how it all plays out. You must all determine exactly when the story starts for your character within your own personal chronology.

Post -in character- HERE!

Please continue to post OOC discussion in this thread.

Also, A couple questions:

First: the Class Variant UA's? Are they ok? For Warlocks, as Josiah is, it would mean being able to switch out one of his spells for another on his list every long rest. Originally, they could only switch out upon a level up, but the creators said what they've noticed is that some games (namely Play By Post) can stay in the same level for months, or even years, and being stuck with the same spells that may or may not be used. Allowing a Warlock, Bard or Sorcerer to switch out their spells on a long rest fixes this issue, and gives them some much needed versatility. It's still not like a Wizard, Cleric, Druid or Paladin, who can switch out their entire lists on a long rest, but it gives something.

Second: could I key Josiah's Warlockness off his Intelligence instead of Charisma? The original design was to make them Int castors, but play test said that people wanted them to be Charisma based. We just have so many Charisma castors in the game. Even in this game, we have a Paladin and a multicalssed Warlock who will likely be Charisma based. And with Investigation being a main skill for Josiah, keying off intelligence would make sense. I don't know if we have any Wizards coming, but this would help in that area, as well.

A lot of people seem to be planning to multiclass. Any thoughts about starting at 2nd level?

How are we doing stats?
Presumably by the book.

Any suggestions on dealing with our changeling nature? I don't think there's an existing fey changeling race in official 5e.

For example, the d&d wiki has these homebrews for Nymph, either might be good for Charlotte's character:

If you're open to it, I might roll my own fae race.

LOL, please allow tglassy to do this. my fae will likely be some kind of bard/sorcerer.

Finally, any thoughts on my character being a tiny, flying fae? That would lead toward the advisor role rather than defender role. Or maybe human size to start and then becomes a flying fae later for balance. (I'm just spitballing here. I have no definitive plan here.)

Changeling is a new, official race option in the new Eberron book. It can shapeshift to look like whatever and whoever it wants, and whatever gender it wants, it just doesn’t change its stats. Sort of like a permanent, lesser version of the Alter Form Spell. Changeling societies even share personas among them sometimes, where the doctor may be an old man named Tim, but various Changeling will take turns taking on his persona at different times.

Also, look up Eldarin in Mordenkeinan’s Tome of Foes. They take stats based on the seasons and can switch seasons on a long rest, representing the ever changing nature of the Fey. There’s actually a official “blessing” of the elf god given to a few elves that allows them to change their gender on a long rest. This is also in Mordenkeinan’s Tome of Foes. And sense “elves” are fey, you could easily adapt that to what you’re wanting.

Also, there are three ways to do it by the book: Rolling, standard array or point buy. I just wanted to know if rolling was an option

Not that I’ve had any luck at all with rolling lately. Coyote code has been really letting me down the last few times I rolled for stats.

I was mostly gonna just nab a vanilla race and reflavor it, honestly, given that Jhary said to keep it to core. :)

That said, everyone seems to be nabbing all my first picks for classes (bard, sorcerer, warlock, paladin, investigator-themed character) so I might have to rethink things a little. I figured the nymph princess would be Cha-heavy (of course 😜) but if folks think we have too many charmers I might try something else.
