Personally, I kind of like getting news about an upcoming release a few times a year instead of just once. It's more fun, and if you don't like one thing, you don't have to wait a whole year before hoping to hear about something better.

Not to mention all the negative publicity generated by cancelled or postponed products - there are a lot more of those than you think.

I dont go on WotC website, twitter, facebook or podcasts, so this is where I keep up with RPG news. Have there really been that many cancelled/postponed products in 5E? What edition & year re we talking? I knew it happened but Im pretty much out of the loop on this.

I think he meant in general. And we don't know about the cancelled products because they get cancelled before they're announced. Paul is just assuming that they exist (from personal experience in the industry, I assume). But we know of at least one 5E product that was cancelled: The Adventurer's Handbook. Some of its content made its way into a free PDF, the Elemental Evil Player's Companion.

Never even knew that book was in development. Seems like a rather trivial thing to get up in arms about. I'd rather them cancel a book then put out junk.

As someone who works in marketing, it is way smarter to spread out your release announcements. That way instead of someone getting the full release slate and budgeting what products they want, you can get people to spend more than they would otherwise if they knew the full slate.

And yes, I know not everyone is going to be "fooled," but it happens enough that announcing your full slate at once isn't good business sense.

I'm not being fooled by the strategy as such, but it has been very effective to get me excited about each product individually as it comes down the pipeline.

The Canadian version of Amazon did not bother updating, its just Januarary 9th, no reference to Jan 13th. Figures once again Canada is an after thought, even though FR is the brain child of a Canadian. sigh.

Thats not what Im getting at. This isnt the first time this has happened with Amazon. What Im getting at is just announce their release schedule for the year up front. In editions passed I always found it more exciting knowing what was coming.

Bud, you have no idea. The absolutely unreasonable calls and the torches and pitchforks crowd are ABSOLUTELY ruthless whenever some announced product isn't brought out. Heck, a murder/suicide sidelining a project isn't enough to get people to stop crucifying WotC for not bringing a project out on time. (See for more details on that)

Any sign of a project that is announced and not fufilled is absolute proof that WotC is a failing company and should never have been in charge of D&D in the first place, they hate all gamers and they are a bunch of mindless corporate drones.

So, for exactly the same reason that we NEVER see WotC dev's on the forums anymore, we will never get pre-announcements either. Too many people piddled in the pool.

Sounds like some people forget its a game and the only ones who should be that passionate about it are those people whose jobs are on the line.

Im having few beers at the bar watching the Sabres so I'll give your post further review later.
