I have not been a dedicated player since 3e when we played a adventure series Age of Worms. When we were in junior and high school, we all took turn playing and DMing, but over the last 15 years I would say DM 90% of the time.

A lot of the time my group is only 3 people and I tend to have a lot of NPCs that tag a long with the party sort as a DMPC. Not to get into a thread about that, but it adds a bit like playing even though I know what is going to happen as the DM.

Not sure on the ratio I would like to DM/play, but something like every other week might work, or 1/month where I get to play would be ok.

Mostly DM with ULTRA rare breaks as a player. I did about 8 campaigns (usually short ones at that...) in 40 years as a player. One of these was in AD&D 1ed, One of in the Oriental Adventure and one in Eberon. Two were in Robotech, Two were in Vampire the masquerade, One in Role Master, The rest of the time, I was the DM.

I always had a problem as a players where I always wanted to change my character after a few session because I always wanted something else, something new. So I started DMing. Now I cant see myself being just a player, I need to play a whole lot of character at the same time. The only few times I' actually a player, I tend to play what I like to call ''Ice Climbers'' characters, named after the character from Smash Bros. Like, I play one character sheet, but in game its actually two dwarf brothers completing each other.

In the last two years, I have done 90% of the DMing and rarely played myself. However, before that, it was the other around, when a friend of mine took the DM role. He had a bit of a DM burnout, before I stepped in, so it's not ruled out that we might switch again at some point (possibly after we conclude the current campaign).

In general, I enjoy DMing, though, despite the higher effort and cognitive load.

I am forced to vote "Other." There is nothing closer to "Usually player, sometimes DM". We have 5 people in our group and rotate DMing so I DM like 20% of the time in aggregate.

I hate to be the guy complaining about missing poll options, but I'm surprised that the poll includes player always, DM always, mostly DM, and 50/50 were present... but the fifth option for mostly player and occasional DM is missing.
Well, if I didn't disappoint someone, I wouldn't be me

I am blessed with a group filled with DMs. We usually have 2 games going, alternating weeks. In theory we should rotate out, but for whatever reason, I've been prepared to DM again before anyone else is after my campaign. Usually one guy runs a few one-shots between campaigns, and I guess I'm just faster to propose. Fortunately someone's got something ready for when I'm done, because I've been DM about 50% of the time, and I'm feeling a bit burned out. (I'm actually considering cutting my current campaign a bit short, then returning to it later).

In my main group, I am the DM, because nobody else wants to do it.

I get occasional chances to play with other groups, now and again.
