D&D 5E Have we rebalanced the Champion Yet?

In all honesty a way to get an extra attack probably helps the battlemaster more - as he can tie it into a trip attack round to also grant that attack advantage.
Either can trip though there is your thought on it helps both coming back. Now trips in a team environment are edgy because they can make several follow ups with advantage if you are only talking personal output however? so at low level you are using either two attacks without advantage or one attack with advantage.

I know this is sacrilege to some, but I'd just grant the Champion damage on a miss equal to their proficiency bonus. That's distinctive and simple, which I would argue are the criteria for any Champion ability. Of course, I've not seen a Champion in play yet, so I don't know if they actually need to be fixed.
hmmmmm

fir the champion yes. The battlemaster gets a maneuver to trip as part of his attack

again that is not something he gets more of because of the change though ... that is bounded by resources.

He is already spending that on a riposte or something else that is also worth about an extra attack..plus a die

Your not following.

Turn 1. Attack1 + Trip attack Manuever (knock prone) + Action Surge Attack2 (at advantage) + Your new attack3 (at advantage)

Or you are not ... getting advantage can happen from a lot of sources and adding in Action surge is again spending resources you are making it more complicated they both get that action surge resource... yes it means the guy who already has the advantage of controlling when he gets a boom can still do it that didnt change.

The Champion gets more damage potential out of making more attacks (or even more advantage attacks) and can keep on doing it every round (if they are willing) the other one gets more benefit out of spending that other resource. This does not change by adding resource expenditures in to it.

Not sure I picture the option used that often till you start getting more hit points yourself so Its less valuable at helping the low level Champion when the current thought is they need help more.

Maybe in the level 5 plus range

IMO. I would use the version that gives an enemy an OA it if I have 20 AC and haven't used 2nd Wind yet. At least against anything that didn't have a single attack that would hit me like a truck if it hit.
