D&D 5E Xanathar's Guide errata coming

OSR has nothing to do with it. HS is out of whack with the other 5E healing spells.

It's better than a decent Paladin spell that's a level higher and can't be acquired until level 9.

5E is ready easy mode that ship sailed long ago. HS is just an iceberg.

I won't be allowing either version in the game. I had already informed the group it's goneburger next campaign.

Not that it really matters. Next campaign is probably goneburger.
Yeah see the whole "5E being easy mode" that is definitely OSR. I mean just be honest about it.

5E is not easy mode it is an edition that makes cinematic heroes out of the PCs just like larger than life fantasy heroes of yesteryear (Conan, John Carter of Mars, etc) I have no issue with this as DM or player. I have no desire to return to return say to the one encounter workday and then overnight rest or go forward and die 1st level adventures of 1E but on that point I digress
HS was good because it allowed the PCa to have a means to heal without a dedicated "leader". A ranger could get the job done in theory. Now, the game is back to being more leader dependent while this spell is now utter S. It blows especially for rangers who can't swap out spells like a paladin who get the spell aura of vitality and others.

I think the old version of the spell is hardly necessary due to short rest healing. A team can have no dedicated healer and still do fine. Gone are the days where a dedicated healer is needed for a party.

It's easy mode pre Xanathars, the spells not needed. No one's forcing you to use the errata, hell I hardly ever bother with errata.

Again, prayer of healing isn't a paladin spell and it isn't better than healing spirit with the posted change because:

a) prayer of healling cannot be used in combat, and
b) prayer of healing is better for groups but worse for single target healing out of combat

No additional spell is NEEDED. Heck, no additional subclasses are needed per se but they are WANTED and more importantly they are FUN!

Also, again the game was not "easy mode" pre-XG. The game is just not a grindfest and random Effery of PCs like in some older editions such as 1E. This is a good thing.

Yes. I meant to say Aura of Vitality.

As written there is no reason I can see a class with healing spells to take this over healing word or cure wounds or goodberry, etc. This is especially true for what I call subcaster classes and by this I mean classes like the ranger and paladin

You actually CAN precast Prayer of Healing and time it to go off during combat. Usually by kicking open the door to the next room a round or two before the spell is supposed to go off. If there is nothing dangerous in the room then you can just abort the spell and start over without wasting any spell slots.

This does have the disadvantage of making you less than stealthy, since you're constantly chanting.

I've had errata come up one time at my 5e tables, It went like this. "even the errata says class level not character level for invocations, it would be ridiculous otherwise & this discussion is over bob."

I get the feeling that the reason people are arguing against errata is because they covet abusing the loopholes that would be fixed
