D&D 5E Tired of doing WotC's job

PHB page 150:

Clothes, common 5 sp, 3 lb
Clothes, costume 5 gp, 4 lb
Clothes, fine 15 gp, 6 lb
Clothes, traveler's 2 gp, 4 lb
...
Robes 1 gp, 4 lb

Also, on page 157, in the Trade Goods section you can find that 1 square yard of linen costs 5 gp and 1 square yard of silk costs 10 gp.

I know it's not specifically a cloak, but I think you can made do with this info.
Since traveller's clothes clearly would include a weatherproof cloak, and common clothes don't, the cost of a cloak is obviously 15 sp, and it's weight is 1lb.

But NPCs always see the PCs coming, and will try to gouge them for whatever they think the can get, so it wouldn't be uncommon for them to ask for 10gp in my game.

Really, who keeps track of how much the player's clothes weigh?!!

Need a rule: if it is raining double the weight of the PCs clothes. Because clearly there can never be too much simulation!

I don't mean to be as dismissive as some of the other posters in this thread... but, honestly, if there are older versions of the D&D rules that contain the rules you need, that feel more comfortable for you, that work better for you, then by all means play those versions.

I'm running an AD&D 2e game right now. My next D&D game is going to be a horrible kludge of BECMI and Player's Option. There are groups still playing 4e, still playing 3.X and PF1, playing PF2, playing AD&D, and playing Classic. There are communities dedicated to keeping those games alive.

I ran a game of 5e for a few months, and I don't like it and I won't run it again... and my friends are still pissed at me for asking them to buy the books. You don't have to love the most current version of D&D to love D&D, just because it's the most current version and the most popular version (ever); you can love the D&D that you love, and you can find people to play it with you, and you're still a D&D fan.

5e is clearly the DIY version of d&d, compared to 4e and 3e.
Is it a flaw? Not to me, but if you don’t enjoy, as the DM, to do a lot of work and fine tuning, then it can be.

I know people that DMed great, long campaigns in 4e, but have been exclusively players since the advent of 5e. 5e takes some extra effort that they’re not willing to put in, and that’s fine.

The comparison to 3e is on another level. I’d argue that 3e is a nightmare to run, compared to 5e, but 3e certainly gave you all the answers you could ever need, if you looked hard enough in thousands and thousands of pages, over dozens and dozens of books. Sorry, I’m getting PTSD flashbacks.

I never found that with 3.5, I prefer it precisely because it gave a huge plethora of options and customisation within the confines of D&Ds class-based system - that customisability was its greatest appeal.

Of course before 3e I had been playing GURPS and now I prefer Fate Accelerated so I like customisation:)

My only statement is that I disagree with the premise of the thread. I do not believe either of the things mentioned are WotC's job. WotC's job was to produce a product for purchase, which they did. Anything past that is on us. What we do with it... what we think about it.

The company bears no further responsibility.

Can't you use the cloak by a fallen enemy? If you have got enough gold to buy a healing potion you shouldn't worry about that.

If you want "remorse curse" can be a magic ritual with different levels, and a level 1 to heal infections by monsters with a low challenging rating.

Assuming this wasn't a joke, I wish the OP luck. I don't think what he's asking for exists, but I could be wrong. Personally I like leaving some decisions up to the DM. But no game can be right for everyone.

But I was also trying to remember if any edition ever had a price list for a cloak. Only place I could think was Aurora's Whole Realm Catalogue back in 2E. Which answered other such burning questions such as "how much is a pair of pliers or Turmish brick cheese?"

For the cloak, our table don’t even manage the purchase of such item.
Gold serve only for important trade.

For the lycanthropy it depends on how the DM want to use it as a story arc. A random lycan is not a good call.
