D&D 5E WotC Announces An Impending Announcement: New Setting, Storyline

Early this week, WotC announced on Twitter that today there would be some kind of announcement on their Twitch channel. Those who heard that announcement and tuned in were treated to an announcement that the new storyline will be announced at a live event in June.

The press release announcing the impending announcement also mentions a new setting, as well as the storyline, so it sounds like it might not be set in the Forgotten Realms (or maybe is in a new region - to 5E - of the Realms, such as Icewind Dale). The adventure and the setting might be the same thing, or they might be completely different things. Recently, WotC has released a bunch of settings: Eberron, Ravnica, Wildemount, and the upcoming Theros.

Fans of D&D will learn all about the new setting and storyline

The new storyline specifically will be revealed at 12pm PST (8pm GMT) on Thursday, June 18th.

The June event will raise money for Comic Relief, and will feature celebrities including Brandon Routh (Superman), and will preview the brand new storyline. It takes place June 18th-20th. Other names involved include Felicia Day, Deborah Ann Woll, Amy Acker, David Harbour, Matthew Lillard, and more.

This one may be for the event next month, but it is not for a new setting. Read the preview pages for it and you will see it is set near Turmish, and everyone plays orcs.

I'm switching over to this thread, but Tito made a Spelljammer confirmed joke, and Mike Mearls is back full-time working on D&D RPG.
David Harbour as Bruenor Battlehammer? I can see that too. Middleditch as Regis? Hoo-boy. The biggest badass gets to play Wulfgar, which IMO would Karen Gillian. Awesomesauce.

Perkins game with Harbor I'm it, per the schedule, looks to be Theros based ..

Yes, I read in wikipedia Cris Perkings created a setting with the name Iomandra, practically a rehush of "Councyl of Wyrms". I imagine Io's blood islands as a demiplane, and in that "crsytal sphere" there are enough space for all cannon dragons from all editions.

Gaming is fun, and fun is for everyone
Is the Underdark a "new setting" (from Out of the Abyss)? Is Chult a "new setting"? I'm just curious what the definition here is for "new setting".

No clear definition was provided. I assume that is means, any place we haven't already visited in a setting book or adventure.

So that could be something like Cormyr, or as far as Spelljammer.

Considering, IIRC, Ravnica and Wildemount were considered new settings, I doubt the new setting will be a totally new creation never seen before in any other media. My guess is more on a popular fantasy setting that never had a D&D release.

Oh! Ha, I did not realize that. Fixed.

Are you thinking of any specific hints?

The Lore You Should Know content. The inclusion of Icewind Dale in the Lareal Silverhand Explorer's Kit (other than Icewind Dale and Neverwinter, every other location in that product is the center of an Adventure book...). Just... little things. But they add up. And the NDA people do let little bits and bobs loose out there, like that Reddit thread. Not the first time.
