D&D 5E How would you wish WOTC to do Dark Sun

I know nothing of Ravenloft and Forgotten Realms has always been terrible. But it is not like your old books will vanish if they make a new version. Maybe it will be good, maybe not. But you will lose nothing, if you don't like the new version you don't have to use it and nothing has changed for you.
Forgotten realms is one of the best and most complete settings out there, but of course it needs taste to be appreciated, and while I like it I hate to see it screwed like what happened in 4th edition, even if I can still use the old modules to play.

Athas is dead, but Ghostwalks teachs in D&D to be dead doesn't mean the end of the party.

The metaplots in the D&D worlds aren't only for the games, but for the multimedia projects (videogames, novels, comics, toys, movies and teleseries).

I wonder about if WotC is going to introduce the concept of time spheres/ parallel worlds, to allow players to create their own "uchronies" or alternate timelines, but I don't know if this is possible in Athas or this is "special". A reboot of some lines may be neccesary, but also it's risky for the complains about a "jumping the shark" effect.

* If feel curiosity about the dark domain of Kalidnai in Ravenloft. I suspect the sorcerer-king Kalid-Ma hasn't said his last word.

* Dark Sun has got slavery and gladiator games, but also the movies of swords and sandals, for example "the robe"(1953) with Richard Barton, or Barrabas(1951) with Anthony Quinn. The true key of this matter is about we respect for the human dignity.

* DS is a mixture of planetary romance, sword and sorcery and ecologic post-apocalypse.

* I have said some times in the past some D&D line will come back throught the front door, with dignity, but with accompanied with some media production, movie, teleserie or videogame. (a blockbuster action-live movie or a videogame need a lot of time and work. maybe the easier option would be a CGI teleserie for media streaming services).

* Does DM-Guild allow artists to earn money selling their own sketches of DS characters?

And I agree, but since the current feelings I'm afraid WotC would much rather avoid the issues altogether.
The future of WOTC adventures will be about unicorns and flowers and campaing and making friends, so to not leave traumas to their new sensible fan base (aka the twitter vocal minority mob).

It is an embarrassing incoherent kitchen-sink disaster without unifying theme or style. That being said, they probably shouldn't have messed with it in the 4th, as it didn't make it any better and people who for some incomprehensible reasons liked the original hated those changes.

A setting with an unique style is boring after a while, the power of FR is exactly to not have a theme and allow players and DM to live countless kinds of adventures.
And about messing with it during the 4e that's exactly the reason why I don't want any other old TSR setting dumbed down by sensitivity readers and censors.

You don't have to use it like you don't have to use the new FR. But some other people might want to. And mechanics for the current edition are useful even if you wouldn't like the new lore. Nothing is stopping one from using the old lore and the new mechanics.

Dark Sun needs is own monster manual as well as a PHB, DMG, and a good map. I'd put it in a 3 book set like the core rules and sell it like that. I dont think that a DS PHB would appeal to the the average player and see it more as a product that DMs would buy, Id buy it. I would like to see WotC get away from their strictly one 250+ pg book even if its only once in awhile. I almost forgot, a Dark Sun dice set, can't forget the obligatory dice set for every release.

I think the phrase you’re looking for is ‘not my cup of tea’. Suggesting that millions of people are incomprehensible is not a good look.

The forgotten realms is without doubt the singularly most popular and most published settings in D&D. In my opinion Ed Greenwood has had as much influence on players of D&D as Gygax did. There are more novels for FR than any other setting.

Forgotten realms is the default for 5e and it was effectively the default setting for 3e too, as Greyhawk was barely touched. And judging by the products released AD&D too. Other settings have fallen by the wayside or are niche.
