D&D 5E WotC Dungeons & Dragons 2020 Product Survey

The Glen

Legend
They accidentally forgot Mystara again. It is one of the best-known settings, don't know why it doesn't get the love. It is good to see Jeff Grubb and Zeb Cook get some love. Those were two of the best game designers TSR had. Aaron Alston & Tom moldvay could have made the list as well.

Birthright may be a good teen-friendly D&D version of Game of Thrones but it needs a good plot and a really good story. I have said the world of Cerilia has to come back because it's perfect for real-time-strategy videogames.

Mystara could be popular again thanks some arcade videogame as "Tower of Doom" by Capcom, but the old lines are too "frozen" to allow the new elements of crunch, as PC races or classes, to be added. And we are in the age of internet and fandom wiki. If you want lore you can read lots of wikis about books, comics, movies or teleseries.

Gaming is fun, and fun is for everyone
The questions on designers were interesting, especially since some of those designers (Gary Gygax, Dave Arneson) aren't even alive anymore.

If I had to guess, I'd say that question is geared around "What old adventures should we re-make for 5E?"

Also picked Dark Sun, Spelljammer and Planescape as the top settings, because I WANT THEM.

That list was odd and didn't give me hope that they are planning to work with many modern designers (current designers, whatever).

5e is TOO MUCH looking to the past for me, I would prefer not live in a world driven by nostalgia.

Um Birthright has both.

Never heard of Mystera and been playing for 40 years...

Okay, was just poking you because :)
Actually, heard of it, never seen a book or actually played it.

I'm pretty happy with the one-foot-in-the-past, one-in-the-future approach. Descent into Avernus and this Icewind Dale adventure both look like fairly new in terms of storytelling for D&D (infernal warmachines definitely felt new), but I have also enjoyed the remakes like Ghosts of Saltmarsh and Curse of Strahd.
