WHAT WONDERFUL WITCHERY IS THIS?

A magical mixture of rules options for the world's greatest roleplaying game.

The wizard Tasha, whose great works include the spell Tasha’s hideous laughter, has gathered bits and bobs of precious lore during her illustrious career as an adventurer. Her enemies wouldn’t want these treasured secrets scattered across the multiverse, so in defiance, she has collected and codified these tidbits for the enrichment of all.
  • EXPANDED SUBCLASSES. Try out subclass options for every Dungeons & Dragons class, including the artificer, which appears in the book.
  • MORE CHARACTER OPTIONS. Delve into a collection of new class features and new feats, and customize your character’s origin using straightforward rules for modifying a character’s racial traits.
  • INTRODUCING GROUP PATRONS. Whether you're part of the same criminal syndicate or working for an ancient dragon, each group patron option comes with its own perks and types of assignments.
  • SPELLS, ARTIFACTS & MAGIC TATTOOS. Discover more spells, as well as magic tattoos, artifacts, and other magic items for your campaign.
  • EXPANDED RULES OPTIONS. Try out rules for sidekicks, supernatural environments, natural hazards, and parleying with monsters, and gain guidance on running a session zero.
  • A PLETHORA OF PUZZLES. Ready to be dropped into any D&D adventure, puzzles of varied difficulty await your adventurers, complete with traps and guidance on using the puzzles in a campaign.
Full of expanded content for players and Dungeon Masters alike, this book is a great addition to the Player's Handbook and the Dungeon Master’s Guide. Baked in you'll find more rule options for all the character classes in the Player's Handbook, including more subclass options. Thrown in for good measure is the artificer class, a master of magical invention. And this witch's brew wouldn't be complete without a dash of added artifacts, spellbook options, spells for both player characters and monsters, magical tattoos, group patrons, and other tasty goodies.

UPDATE! Other news items around the web about this book:

The Psionic Talent die died in Playtest, Crawford said earlier, so given the Fighter and Rogue options from November were popular, I'd actually give them some odds of making the cut here.

I hope they managed to come out with something reasonably balanced and which scales properly without the psi die.

There were issues with the design of both classes, and the die being able to go away easily at low levels wasn't a great concept, but it would be very easy to turn both into underpowered junk that scales poorly if they aren't careful.

The mechanics received good feedback the first go around, the divisive issue was people were cold on the mandatory fluff. Tone down the fluff, tighten the math, it's a winner.

Sure, I'm just surprised that something they got as much "CHANGE THIS!" feedback about was "the most positive" as well. Obviously it's quite possible, but it's kind of odd.

Everything they tested (apart from the Abhorrent Mind) was rejected. Which suggests to me the psionics in this book are not that close to the UA versions.
The Psionic Die was rejected (BOOH!) not the psionic classes themselves, nuances.

Yeah, now that the Psionic stuff is confirmed, that seems likely. Also, someone reminded me of the Summoning spells, so those are likely in there.

Oh yeah... those were a thing too! I forgot about them because I'm not a big spell guy.

The point is we already have a MM2 and MM3, the title "Monster Manual 2" or "Player's Handbook 2" is something WotC has stated is bad marketing that harmed their business in the past.

But they're not though.

Does the Monster Manual have five chapters (144 pages) of straight fluff? They're supplements that have some monsters in them but aren't nearly as dense a resource of monsters the way the MM is.

Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes. Why not a MM 2?

Volo's Guide to Monsters essentially is a MM2, and Mordenkainen's is a MM3, under different names and with additional player options.

Now I won't argue, I'd like to see another monster book myself, they're great! I believe Gem Dragons are supposed to be released sometime, and it doesn't look like this book, so I'd expect the MM4 to have those. Although I found the wording odd for Tasha's "spells for both player characters and monsters."

Unrelated, check out what I assume are some sample sidekicks;

I think that picture might be more of a demonstration of the Lineage system at work.
