WHAT WONDERFUL WITCHERY IS THIS?

A magical mixture of rules options for the world's greatest roleplaying game.

The wizard Tasha, whose great works include the spell Tasha’s hideous laughter, has gathered bits and bobs of precious lore during her illustrious career as an adventurer. Her enemies wouldn’t want these treasured secrets scattered across the multiverse, so in defiance, she has collected and codified these tidbits for the enrichment of all.
  • EXPANDED SUBCLASSES. Try out subclass options for every Dungeons & Dragons class, including the artificer, which appears in the book.
  • MORE CHARACTER OPTIONS. Delve into a collection of new class features and new feats, and customize your character’s origin using straightforward rules for modifying a character’s racial traits.
  • INTRODUCING GROUP PATRONS. Whether you're part of the same criminal syndicate or working for an ancient dragon, each group patron option comes with its own perks and types of assignments.
  • SPELLS, ARTIFACTS & MAGIC TATTOOS. Discover more spells, as well as magic tattoos, artifacts, and other magic items for your campaign.
  • EXPANDED RULES OPTIONS. Try out rules for sidekicks, supernatural environments, natural hazards, and parleying with monsters, and gain guidance on running a session zero.
  • A PLETHORA OF PUZZLES. Ready to be dropped into any D&D adventure, puzzles of varied difficulty await your adventurers, complete with traps and guidance on using the puzzles in a campaign.
Full of expanded content for players and Dungeon Masters alike, this book is a great addition to the Player's Handbook and the Dungeon Master’s Guide. Baked in you'll find more rule options for all the character classes in the Player's Handbook, including more subclass options. Thrown in for good measure is the artificer class, a master of magical invention. And this witch's brew wouldn't be complete without a dash of added artifacts, spellbook options, spells for both player characters and monsters, magical tattoos, group patrons, and other tasty goodies.

-Does this mean they'll revise the PC writeup for Kobolds (still has a negative ability mod) and Yuan-Ti Purebloods (too powerful).

-My problem with psionic die was that it was counter-intuitive, rolling high was a bad thing, and brings me back to the negative parts of 2e where rolling high was a bad thing for some things and it was totally confusing.

-Sidekick as a class, a Sidekick with a Warrior subclass makes it so there's even less of a justification for their being a Champion Fighter in the first place. That subclass was basically designed to be the "tutorial" subclass of D&D.

-I actually wonder if they have the Astral Self Monk, Wild Soul Barbarian and Swarmkeeper Ranger. Those were among the most "out there" concepts.

-While it's a minor thing in those class options rules, I really hope they retain Wizards getting Speak with Dead, as it's something I felt Necromancers deserved to have if they want to be any other concept beyond the corpse-raising Wizard.

-I wonder if spell focus items means more things like +1 to +3 to save DCs and spell attack rolls, plus something else that modifies spells.

-I'm in approval of more things to customize the origin of a PC, background is a useful tool but I feel there always could be more things out there too.

Gaming is fun, and fun is for everyone
I think that picture might be more of a demonstration of the Lineage system at work.

Yeah it could be... it is cool how they gave these guys some personality beyond "I'm a bird-person!"

But they're not though.

Does the Monster Manual have five chapters (144 pages) of straight fluff? They're supplements that have some monsters in them but aren't nearly as dense a resource of monsters the way the MM is.

Sigh. I suppose if all you really want is the statblocks and nothing else, you can go to DND Beyond and buy those exclusively if you can't handle that extra fluff.

And to be clear, the MM has 159 statblocks of monsters. Volo's has 139 statblocks, and Mordenkainen's has 120. They're a little bit less, but is 20 fewer monsters really what separates them from being Monster Manuals?

I'm a little surprised that they're using the word "Everything" in the title. Since it was already used in Xanathar's Guide, I'd have thought they'd want to make the title of this one more distinctive.
It's branding. All of the "Everything" books -- and presumably, one day, there will be more of them -- will have this sort of grab bag of content, including a bunch of player options.

I don't expect a new writeup for kobolds explicitly, just whatever new rules for changing racial mods to cover it. As for Purebloods, they gave Satyrs magic resistance, so I suspect they aren't too concerned.

It isn't just about what they are it's also about what they aren't. The Monster Manual has to devote a fair amount of space to guidelines on encounter building etc, which makes sense since it's the first monster book. A real second and third monster manual wouldn't have to do this and instead of having say, 40 less or 20 less monsters they'd probably have equal or double that number more. That's my problem.

By trying to appeal to players they make it a worse table resource for DMs. It also makes them notably different in execution and intent from a Monster Manual.

I think they explicitly said they were errataing all the races with negatives.
