D&D General Kender PC, Yes or No?

Would you allow me to play a Kender PC in a game YOU are running as a DM?

I would, were I running a Dragonlance campaign, and knew you to be a non-disruptive sort of player.

I've known many players over the years that would think nothing of stealing from other PCs or worse, and none of them were playing kender.

Kenders were created to be the Elves' wingman.

Players can look at D&D, see the Kender, and almost talk themselves into thinking the Elf is an option.

DO NOT BE FOOLED.

It's like when you're at a bar, late at night, having consumed far too much for your own good. Just because you see two people, doesn't mean either of them are good options.

When you wake up in the morning, after a vigorous night of D&D, the cold light of day will remind you that you played an elf or a kender. That's a walk of shame you do once in your life, and never again.

No, I have never seen a Kender played who was not disruptive in play. The last time I tried to go along with it, after mycharacter discovered some of his equipment missing and the whole Kender thing was explained to him, he said yeah, okay, I will play along. So my character started carrying all sorts of interesting baubles, toys and trinkets that the Kender could amuse himself with. Well, the Kender never once went for any of these items even after the DM provided the Kender player with the information about what I had, he always went for my gems, gold and magic items. After the third incident, I simply refused to adventure with the Kender anymore and told the party either he left or I did, the vote was unanimous, the Kender was forced to stay behind in town and the player rolled up a new character without much fuss, admitting that he had probably taken it too far.

Yep

Played in DL as a Kender, and have run both a DL and spelljammer campaign with a Kender PC, always been great games and at no time did the Kender spoil the game.

A lot of issues people have with Kender I think are more due to the reason @Dioltach mentions, they give players who already have disruptive tendencies a semi-legitimate excuse to enact that behaviour

At least in Spelljammer you can stick them in a life jammer.
