D&D 5E Unearthed Arcana: Draconic Options

The latest Unearthed Arcana from WotC is called Draconic Options. It includes three variant Dragonborn races and a new kobold race, as well as a handful of new spells and feats. Dragonlance fans might do a double-take when they see Fizban's platinum shield (two Forgotten Realms dragons are referenced in the spells, too -- Icingdeath and Raulothim -- as is the FR god of fey dragons, Nathair)...

Harness the power of dragons in this installment of Unearthed Arcana! This playtest document presents race, feat, and spell options related to dragons in Dungeons & Dragons.

First is a trio of draconic race options presented as an alternative to the dragonborn race in the Player’s Handbook, as well as a fresh look at the kobold race. Then comes a handful of feat options that reflect a connection to draconic power. Finally, an assortment of spells—many of them bearing the names of famous or infamous dragons—offer a variety of approaches to manifesting dragon magic.

true but they would have to have the mind of a five-year-old, dangers herald would be better and that is not even a cool name.
Or the mind of a fey, elf, halfling, a whimsical human....

Twinkle is a fine name. Every sword name doesn't have to be EXCALIBUR or FOE HAMMER or GURTHANG. Heck, I can even see a wizard scribe/librarian naming a sword Paper Cut out of frustration.

If you are a character from Game of Thrones being attacked by an assasin you don't worry his dagger named Sussy.

A book about the faes, or about the faywild, is possible, but it shouldn't be mixed with the future Draconomicon. If Draconomicon is a best-seller, why only one and no more? For example a second book about the planar dragons.

What if updated version of forgotten dragons from previous editions are published in DM-Guild and sold enoughly well? Then to create a new D&D/M:tG setting with lots of dragons and dinosaurs, and also kaijus, mechas (giant constructs) and even hensi-sentai heroes.

We should remember the potential value of the D&D faes to sell toys. Now Grogu/baby Joda is one of the most current Star-Wars characters. Let's imagine what Hasbro could do with its own Grogu. You can bet Hasbro wants to reuse all those elements enoughly cute for the preteen audence. If they could, they would produce a D&D version of collectable tamed monster arena (Digimon, Pokemon, Bakugan, Temtem..).

If a book is all about dragons, I think it should include planar and fey dragons as well, but not include general fey information or other creatures. A separate feywilde book should be made for that. That's not to say that new dragons can't be created for the feywilde and planar books, but any known dragons of those types should be included in a book about dragons.

The planar dragons should be templates in the same way that the shadow dragon is a template.

the planar dragons much like the planes need to be redone to make them interesting and worth spending time on.

but it was named by a drow who are not known for whimsy, blood drinker is a drow's weapons name.

I don't know that I agree with that. You can have a red dragon that lives in the abyss, or you can have an abyssal dragon as its own type. One is a dragon that lives on the planes and the other is a planar dragon.

It doesn't have to be due to whimsy, though. Perhaps the sword just twinkled in the darkness. Drow are a chaotic race. And heck, Blood Drinker is not even drow like. Drow are not really bestial like that. That's an orc or barbarian name. Drow swords would be more subtle than that.

Yes, I know. But I think that Abyssal should be a template, like Shadow is a template.
