Esmerelda isn't a Roma name (it appears to be from Latin via Spanish, meaning Emerald). It was just popularised by Victor Hugo who gave it to a Roma character.
This. Ezmerelda was a problematic name for the character to have in the first place, but they’re in too deep to just retcon it. Shortening it seems like a reasonable compromise.

Your theory, or at least something very close to it, seems basically confirmed. Well done.

The question is, does this mean:
  • They ignored 3E Ravenloft? (Wouldn't entirely surprise me, but ouch, sorry Kargatane.)
  • Azalin spectacularly failed a third time?
  • They retconned the entire setting's history, and just chose to integrate a version of Requiem into it?

Guess we'll see in a few weeks...

To be fair, the post Requiem Darkon ("Necropolis") had the most development in Darkon ever saw, so it makes sense to reuse a lot of that work from DoD - 3e. So I'm not entirely surprised. Ironically, my original campaign idea (before this was announced) was in the era between the Requiem and Azalin's return, so this is nearly perfect.

It looks like it's a campaign book made to give a little bit of everything so people can expand on Ravenloft themselves (or if they're huge fans, they'll go back to older editions to fill the missing stuff).

I get why they have small entries, because do we really want huge reprints of older material? That's the issue of new editions, you're really just buying reprints (much like how video game companies sell you a "remastered" version of the same game, or the same game but instead of PS4, it's PS5, or it's part of a bundle, then part of an even bigger bundle, etc. etc).

I think if the domain entries were "This is the domain, what's it known for, etc." and then present the biggest changes to it now in comparison to previous editions, then all people have to do to flesh it out is take the old info but replace some of it with the new lore.

What's the most important thing nowadays with D&D is how do the mechanics work with the lore? I think what sets this campaign setting apart is the offering to DMs and players every game mechanic tool and ruleset along with advice on how to run these Horror-Fantasy D&D games. It should heavily offer how magic is altered in Ravenloft, the Mists, new rules for Fear/Horror/Madness, etc. Just update the old mechanics to 5th Edition (for DMs) and offer player material suited for a Ravenloft game to the PCs (like a Van Helsing type subclass, Ravenloft-themed spells, etc.).

Certain magic aspects of D&D need to be addressed for a proper Gothic Horror game. The biggest one being Detect Evil. Which I'm going to assume they'll address. But plenty of other magic need to be taken into consideration as well (Necromancy, divinations, resurrection).

Gaming is fun, and fun is for everyone

The irony of someone complaining that shortening it to Ez is racist when it's not even a Romani name... I've never heard this bullocks that shortening people's names is intolerance. Obviously a lot of nicknames are, but just being shorter isn't anything.

Sorry, this is a personal rant, but name shortenings really annoy me, because all too often that is an overlooked racist micro-aggression.
Or it can have nothing to do with racism and everything to do with making the name easier to pronounce for non-native speakers. I've heard my name alerted in so many different ways I am usually the person suggesting a shortened and easier pronunciation to remove that communication barrier. I would even go as far as saying that not adapting your name to the other speaker's tongue is blatantly disrespectful because you're effectively telling them you don't care what their natural inflections are.

As for Esmeralda being problematic for a Vistani - not really, no. While they are modelled after Roma people, they aren't Roma people. They can have whatever names the writers give them. This is a fantasy setting (one that isn't tied to the real world at that) after all. Naming conventions are whatever the creators deem them to be.

What I'd like to see now is a MAP!
Since there's no longer a big connected Core, I doubt there's going to be a detailed map for each domain.

(also I just noticed, I dont see Paridon)
Paridon (along with Timor) was part of the Zherisia cluster, and Zherisia is listed. It's just that Zherisia is a blasted wasteland with nothing in it, so nobody remembers.

G'Henna as in the lower plane Gehenna?
The darklord is Yagno Petrov, who created a religion around a demon-god named Zhakata. Zhakata demands everyone give him all of their food--all of it--and only returns a tiny bit of it, which is then doled out by the priests. Most people are on the brink of starvation all the time, and starvation is considered holy. When someone commits a crime (such as eating too much), Yagno magically turns them into mongrelfolk. Also, the land sucks, with rocky, infertile soil, and it's always either way too hot or way too cold, and drought is common. I don't recall there being any word on what the priests think about food created magically.

One of the videos mentioned that they used three(?) different artists for the different maps so they would have a different feeling that emboddies the feel of those domains so we are probably getting some meaningful maps at least. I don't remember if they mention what the maps are of. I think it was this video

At a guess, they’re fat and happy with their magically created food whilst the rest of the population starves.
