I still think this would be a nice setting.

Tasha's School of Scribe's Wizard is spot on for a Silverquill mage, with the manifested mind appearing as an Inkling creature!
I think it would definitely work: it's a bit weird, and would be unprecedented in a few ways, but it would work.

It seems like each mage college is a permutation of a pair from the five colors.

But there are only five colleges, where ten permutations are possible.

Does that mean five colleges are missing? Might they appear at point in the future with their own styles of magic?
