That's what I meant. They feel so bare bones that I still think that Lineages should be an overlay that goes on top of a Custom Race.

It was the first step towards a new approach. I was hoping for a system similar to the Xanathar's Guide life path, to allow a player and DM to define a whole new culture procedurally.

Yeah. Honestly I like the Lineages more at this point than Custom Race. Still would prefer it as a overlayer mesh though in regards to Lineages. WoTC has shown a number of times before that they seem to be "okay" with stronger player options or stuff.

They could do it like the Harry Potter novels, with the standard "yes, I'm happy to acknowledge that I am a grown adult buying this childrens' novel" cover, and a "no, this is clearly a serious novel for serious readers" alternative cover.

If could see a development that would make each PC have a combo of Race and Lineage, like Elf and Sylvan, or Dwarf and Dhampir, similar to Class\Background.

They could do it like the Harry Potter novels and have dozens of covers they release each year from now until the end of time.

I can't wait for the oversized one filled with tons of deluxe illustrations in, say, 2040!

That would be interesting.

Still, I got no probs with like putting the Dhampir Lineage ontop of the Plane Shift Vampires race, or putting the Rabbit UA Lineage over on top of a Half Elf. You get yourself a Diplomat Bunny AND Jumping!!

Or my fave: Taking the Centaur Race, and applying the Owl Folk UA and flying on top to make a Pegasaur.
