D&D 5E Ray Winninger mentions third project!

WotC's Ray Winniger has confirmed that another D&D release, by James Wyatt, will be released in between Witchlight (September) and Strixhaven (November). Strixhaven was Amanda Hamon's project, while Witchlight is Chris Perkins'. That assumes he's not referring to the Feywild accessory kit in September. Yes, WILD BEYOND THE WITCHLIGHT is the [Chris Perkins] story product I referenced in our dev blog. STRIXHAVEN is [Amanda Hamon's] project. We have not yet announced [James Wyatt's] project, which releases between WITCHLIGHT and STRIXHAVEN.

Why did we announce STRIXHAVEN so early? Pretty simple--there was no way to release the STRIX-related Unearthed Arcana without letting the cat out of the bag.

You'll learn a lot more about all of these products at D&D Live on G4, July 16 and 17. And yes, there is still a little surprise or two ahead.

I know one that I keep saying to anyone that’ll listen. Give Greyhawk to GaryCon like Baldman Games and Gameholecon have regions of FR. Let GaryCon develop 5e and older editions content for it, available on DMSGUILD. Then open it up in the DMSGUILD later.

Make it con exclusive to start.
Or give it (or Mystara) to Goodman Games. (And for the love of god, let them produce PDFs.)

We know Witchlight has player content, so the Feywild Folks UA is likely for that, although Owlfolk are likely to see reprinting in Strixhaven along with Minotaur, Leonin, Loxodon, and possibly Tortles, Grungs, Dhampirs, and maybe Goblins again.
We do not know that Witchlight has any player content: the preview product description says it has "new characters," not "character options" as the Strixhaven blurb does. There has not been any indication of PC options either way yet.

If they do Oriental Asian Adventures 5E, I expect and hope their new hire whose Kickstarted Filipino setting is about to get released, will be part of it.

But it would not shock me in the least if WotC just steered clear of it this edition. There are a lot of updates they can do that aren't similar lightning rods for trouble.
If we get pedantic about it, then all this still remains cultural exploitation, sort of like what Colonial Empires did decades and centuries past, strip mine the Colonies and cherry-pick foreign cultural tropes to sell to the home audience of mostly white privileged people and enrich white run corporations.

I see this with Kickstarters with many native creators struggling to raise the big bucks.

Not saying we cannot adopt ideas from other cultures for fantasy. Just that too often big American corporations are never interested in a fair deal to uplift those creators from outside U.S.A but instead, just bring them to improve sales and profits for the corporate benefactors and shareholders.

An update of the Dragonlance setting will need to be cleaned up and brought up to modern standards, the same way they did with Ravenloft. I am wondering how the new novels are going to handle that, because people new to Dragonlance will read them and go looking at the old books and be shocked/horrified/disappointed/whatever at the differences. Unless Hickman and Weiss are trying to write them with the same insensitivities that the original novels have.
The new novels allegedly being dated was supposedly at the heart of the lawsuit.

Well, Fairies are a specific Race in MtG stuff, not a broad category as in D&D, and...they look a lot like what was in the UA article (often larger than Tiny, variable size because magic, specifically). The odd part is that there are no Fairies or Goblins at Strixhaben in the cards, so any which way something funny is going on.
Is there a MTG setting where they're more prominent? They could just have tossed a bunch of MTG races into one UA and intend to use them in 2022 or 2023 books.

While I'd love for Wizards of the Coast to revive either Greyhawk or Mystara, I'm not holding out much hope. Both of them would have to be changed, a lot, for young gamers to flock to the setting (as Dragonlance would have to be changed). A 50th Anniversary version of Greyhawk could be possible, but as others have said, it would be designed for old timers like me and would cost a lot.

Personally, I'd be fine with WotC giving either Greyhawk or Mystara the []Van Richten's[/i] treatment if it means that either setting gets updated to 5E. I just don't see it happening, although I could see it for Dragonlance.

As for the other new book coming out, I'd geek out of they updated Council of Wyrms as part of a new dragon book. That would be awesome! I love that setting! I'd also buy anything related to Planescape (& Sigil) or Spelljammer.

As for the other two classic settings, if it isn't Greyhawk and Mystara, I'd prefer it to be something more obscure that only had one or two official sourcebooks so that the setting could be reworked to be appropriate for the new generation but something I would be keen on buying.

Jakandor comes to mind. Yes, it would need a complete rewrite to make it more suitable as a modern setting, but it could fill a niche. There were only three books so it isn't overwhelmed with tons of canon, and it is a island setting, so it can be put into any setting.

Another great option would be the setting of the Dragon Mountain boxed set, if WotC isn't going to do Council of Wyrms. They could also do a revised version of Night Below.

The great longshot for me would be the small setting of the Lost World of Chanak that was presented in the AD&D Creative Campaigning sourcebook.
