D&D 5E My guess for the other D&D book this year... Draconomicon!

We know the fifth major product this year will be James Wyatt‘s as-yet unannounced project, and we know it will be coming out this year between Witchlight and Strixhaven. Wyatt co-wrote the Draconomicon for 3E. There have been two recent dragon-themed Unearthed Arcanas — dragon-themed subclasses, and Draconic Options with new dragon-themed spells and Dragonborn variants. He co-wrote those, too. The Gothic Lineages UA turned into Ravenloft, and the Folk of the Feywild UA turned into Witchlight.

Plus the new Dragonlance novel trilogy launches very soon (though that’s licensed out).

So far this year we've already seen or know about two settings (Ravenloft and Strixhaven), and two adventures (Candlekeep and Witchlight). It feels like a rules supplement (monsters, player options, magic items, etc) is due.

I have no inside knowledge on this; it’s 100% a guess. But it sounds like it has gotta be a dragon book. X’s Guide to Dragons? A new Draconomicon?

I really hope it'll be more interesting than the current dragons in the monster manual. They're almost carbon-copy of each other except for their art, their type of breath and some stats difference for their different growth size.

That or Dragonlance. Or both. The Ravenloft book also works as a "How to run Horror in DnD." We could see both a dragon book and a Dragonlance setting book. The level of focus on each would be the only question.

I wish but I doubt it. Their has been no UA material related to DL specific subclasses.

If I had to guess, I wouldn't bet on a third setting book this year. We have two adventures and two settings so far. I think it's likely a rules supplement.

Honestly, I'm not sure what I would prefer. I'm not super keen on dragons or Dragonlance. Still, if the book leans more towards crunch than setting, I am more likely to buy it.

As much as 13 year old me loved Dragonlance and it still holds a very high nostalgia factor, I don't think WotC is going to release something based purely on nostalgia. If the novels do well, I can see a DL book happening - eventually. @Morrus 's Draconomicon speculation could even float some non-FR dragon stuff as a weather balloon to gauge interest.

I loved my 3.5 Draconomicon but I wish to say the drakes are too boring monsters for me. I would rather "true" dragons, and I mean those with age categories. But there is a problem, with the dragons, like the quote from Far West movies: "This Town Ain't Big Enough for Both of Us". They are very territorial and they aren't welcome in the olders' domains. They are predators what need a lot of space to hunt, and this is worse when there are humanoid settements near.

If Ravenloft is a "Jurrasic Park" for undeads, and the future "Witchlight" is a (potentially kid-frienly) "Ravenloft for faes" maybe the reboot of Councyl of Wyrms/Chris Perkins' Iomandra will be a "Ravenloft for dragons and other kaijus". The "Io's Blood Islands" would be a domain in the elemental limbo/chaos.

The return of Dragonlance can't be only books. It needs something to be promoted as multimedia franchise, maybe a videogame or a cartoon serie.
