D&D General MtG Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Spoiler Thread

It does look like dragonborn will in general get a redesign in the near future to bring them much closer to true dragons, at least visually. Not only because the tail but also coloration and general looks, especially the head. (Unless this set has a unusually ratio of half-dragons...)
Now will they completely replace the old dragonborn in official art or is this just to promote the next book which will probably officially introduce the chromatic/metallic/gem dragonborn?

A few things to keep in mind:
• The set was originally designed as a generic D&D themed magic set before the decision was made to put it in an actual D&D setting.
• Forgotten Realms was probably chosen as the setting to put it in because it’s the assumed default setting in 5e.
• This set is probably being targeted primarily at magic players and secondarily at 5e players.
• 5e does not currently have a Grayhawk setting book, and it is not on DMs guild.
• Mordenkainen’s name appears in the title of a 5e book and he has appeared in a published 5e adventure path. Vecna has two artifacts that appear in the DMG, and Acererak has been the primary antagonist of a published 5e adventure path.

Given these facts, it’s likely that the majority of the target audience for this set is not terribly familiar with Grayhawk, but would likely recognize these characters anyway.

See above: for these reasons, it’s likely the majority of the target audience for this set isn’t terribly familiar with Elminster, but they would probably recognize Mordenkainen. I believe it’s also been confirmed that there is going to be a Mordenkainen card. It’s possible that his card could be a legendary creature and the blue planeswalker could be Elminster. But it seems more likely that Mordenkainen will be the blue planeswalker, which would mean if we get an Elminster card, it will probably be a legendary creature.

It
Possibly, but not a Planeswalker, as Zariel already has that slot. I dunno if Red would fit all that well, but he also can't be in as a multicolor character, so he may just be out. Maye they could throw in a Spell that references Eliminster...

Then again, if they do another D&D Set on another world, they can use Eliminster as a Planeswalker there...

If Elminister isn't in the set, while a pile of unknown characters are in, its a slap to the face of Ed Greenwood.

I was thinking of a multi-coloured Elminster - as the chosen of the goddess of magic, could one not make a case for Blue-White?

Multicolour I see Elminister more as Red Blue, maybe even Green Blue, but he's been crunched out of multicolour.

So either:

1. Elminister is the White Planeswalker not blue and Bahumut is the Blue Planeswalker, which is odd.

2. Elminister is part of a TDFC, that transforms into Elminister, like say Amarune Whitewave his great grand daughter whose body he possessed for a time (with her consent). So you play Amarune, do something to trigger her to flip, and there is Elminster.

3. He's a legendary token, you cast say Mystra or Amarune Whitewave and they can a Legendary Elminister token.

4. They combine the all of the Chosen of Mystra into a single Legendary creature card, called the Chosen of Mystra.

5. He's in the Commander decks as a mono coloured legendary creature or Planeswalker.

It appears the Classes are enchantments, but they are a blend of Sagas with the Level up mechanic. You pay the Class and get the starting benefit, then spend mana to go to the next level (Barbarian only has 3 levels, but its an Uncommon, there are 7 Rare Classes and 5 Uncommon Classes).

3 and/or 5 seem plausible: they are doing some funky things with named character tokens here.

That's very much what I was imagining, awesome.

I'm guessing Fighter, Rogue, Cleric, and Wizard are the other Uncommon Classes: Cleric is White, Wizard is Blue, Rogue is Black, and Fighter is Green?
