D&D General The Problem with Evil or what if we don't use alignments?

Oh. Alignment is great when used properly. It's a great shortcut. However running your whole setting on it without having massive holes it tough to do as it's just a basic tool.
And I never claimed the contrary. Why use a demolition mace when a finition hammer will do the trick? A tool has its uses and when you use it for something that it is not intended for, you get the horror stories we all heard or seen in the 80s and early 90s.

Buuuuuuut
It is not because the tool is not adapted for your need that the tool isn't a good one. You gotta use the tool for what it was meant to do. A car is a great vehicle to carry you from point a to point b. But if you want it to carry 50,000 kg load, you will find that a car is lacking in that endeavor. I do not blame the car, I blame the driver. Just as I do not blame alignments, I blame those that want more from it than what it is supposed to do.

By some, sure. By others, no. We handle it just fine.

The story of D&D. Works for me. Too bad for everyone else.

The issues is that TSR and WOTC set a bad example and created fans who don't know how to use alignment.

Huh. Nice appeal to authority. Moving on....
Not an appeal to authority. My point was that people don't use evil races when they want lore to matter because it is harder to do these days. Writers create lore for a living.

It's actually, "I don't like it and see no use for it. Too bad for everyone else." That's what this whole thread is about. Some people don't see a use for alignment and want to take it away from those that do.

Going by a lot of the posts in these threads the problem is willful ignorance. People don't WANT to know, so they close their eyes.

This whole thread was about faithless clerics, but it got hijacked by alignment's garbage.
It's the very first line of the OP, man.

"I don't know if this is addressed at all in the other thread, but what I wanted to ask is would the game be better if alignment wasn't present?"
