As revealed by Nerd Immersion by deciphering computer code from D&D Beyond!

Fizban the Fabulous is, of course, the accident-prone, befuddled alter-ego of Dragonlance’s god of good dragons, Paladine, the platinum dragon (Dragonlance’s version of Bahamut).

Which makes my guess earlier this year spot on!

UPDATE -- the book now has a description!

Although Takhisis is officially meant to be Tiamat, I think we have to consider that one god's aspect on on world of the material plane does not necessarily mean it also happens everywhere in the multiverse.

So Takhisis is dead, and Paladine depowered by the end of the Dragonlance novels, but I don't think that means Tiamat suddenly dies everywhere in the Multiverse, or that Paladine is depowered everywhere.

Essentially, Takhisis is how Tiamat manifests in Dragonlance, but Takhisis dying doesn't actually kill Tiamat in Avernus.
Yeah, the Greater God's of the multiverse definitely have a Platonic Ideal existence.

I am still not liking the title that much, plus we know everyone will just shorten it to FTD, and that makes me wonder how long it will take FTD Florists to file a trademark violation lawsuit against WotC. ;)

I'm guessing/hoping that the new DL trilogy may change the DL timeline in some fundamental way so that the Chaos War and subsequent events didn't happen.
Nope. They are set during the War of the Lance featuring the original characters. The first one is to be called "Dragons of Deceit". Sounds a lot like a Lost Chronicle about the missing module DL-9. In other words, it's a second Lost Chronicles trilogy.

When is this first book coming out? I thought this first one was supposed to be released this summer (like, now) but I haven't seen a cover or synopsis or nothing.

No "named Guide in 2019

  • 2020: Tasha's Cauldron of Everything is released, where Tasha's reign as a "Witch Queen" with fey servitors is depicted.
  • 2021: a "Witch Queen" is set to be a major part of Witchlight, based on some leaked elements, perhaps Tasha?

  • 2021: Fizban's Treasury of Dragons releases
  • 2022: Fizban appears in a Curse of Strahd style reboot of the War of the Lance adventures?

I would love to see Tasha in Witchlight. Getting stats for her would be awesome.

I'm not sure if we could actually reboot all of the War of the Lance modules CoS style without it being a truly massive book, as CoS expands upon the material by essentially creating a mini-setting (giving a ton of detail on Barovia and what encounters to run there). Still, a reboot of these modules in any form would be tons of fun, I'd love to fight Verminaard!

Possibly. That provides precious little to draw conclusions from (old gang, new character, "Dragons of Deciet" being an old module). And is there really enough "lost" material to fill a trilogy? Between time travel already being a thing in DL, WotC's likely desire to get rid of some problematic issues, the War of the Lance being the most beloved part of DL's timeline, it's quite possible to create a forking timeline (due to this new, "strong protagonist") to where some details of the Chronicles can be altered while also providing a blank canvas for post WotL play.

Like I said, this is as much me hoping as guessing. There's very little information to go on, but I assume that WotC is going to have a tie-product (likely as a setting book or adventure path) and they may want a blank slate for new players (rather than cataclysm after cataclysm after cataclysm after Cataclysm).

Maybe more Yawning Portal than Curse of Strahd, realistically. Extracting the actual D&D adventure plotline from the original DL line, setting aside the board game and sidetrek portions, can be done in omen book. Just about.

It'd be big.
