Level Up (A5E) How does 5.5e/6e impact Level Up?

ART!

Deluxe Unhuman
WoTC will release 6e in 3 years. I know they said it will be "backwards compatible", but they said that about 3e and 5e too. Then released stuff like Yawning Portal, which proves that 5e was not backward compatible.
I don't think there's any actual reason to think the 2024 new core books will be anything but 5E as we know it while incorporating new stuff from the past few years and enhancing aspects of play that surveys suggest need enhancing. Expect a lot of surveys in the next year or so. In all the discussions I've seen and heard, there's no indication of any market-based reason for WOTC to move away from the incredible and continuing success of 5E.

I like a regular stream of new crunch myself, but to each their own.

However, I'll be buying less of it from WotC now! Level Up is superior to O5e in basically every possible regard as far as I'm concerned. I'll be standardizing on it for my fantasy gaming.
I know my DM is picking up LevelUp, but in general it is to much crunch for me. But I know there are many who like that stuff

As Morrus says, it's options, and generally limited ones at most, like when you reach a new level and have to pick between two or three options. Most importantly, it's not math. Except for adding the result of an expertise die to the d20 roll and counting exertion points, that is.

Probably the "crunchiest" bit are the maneuvers, since they're brand new. But if you're OK with picking spells, you likely won't have any problem picking maneuvers. Plus, there's no "maneuver trees" where you have to pick a particular 1st degree maneuver in order to get a 2nd degree maneuver like with the old feat trees. You can pick whichever one you like and switch out ones you don't when you... level up. If you don't play spellcasters because you don't like going through all the spells and counting spell slots (I know someone like that) then yeah, that might be a problem.

Think i might write up a really basic conversion table for those apprehensive about A5e. I think a lot of people see a bunch of changes and get overwhelmed regardless of complexity.

This will be mostly motivated for use with my own players but it could be useful here?

Well, that was fun

How do they handle a new D&D book? It’s no more complex than applying Bobbington’s Brazier of Everythingneiss.

probably yes. I have one or two players who think "crunch" is a bad word. Ironically they have individually complained about problems caused by 5e's simplicity & have never played any other system so just go on what they've heard

Now, I dunno if its that simple, but you also gotta come at it from the view point of people who have never played anything other than O5e and if it's not 'official d&d' they get skiddish.
