Nothing, because it's not our job to do that.

Nothing, because the OSR community has made it pretty clear that they don't like 5e (or the current direction of 5e). Why would WotC "laud" a community that doesn't buy their stuff?

Oh, that's right, they're making the OSR movement feel unwanted.

See, the problem is, you have to look at what folks are being toxic about and where the trends lie.

If there is any topic regarding things like art in the books, sexism, racism, etc. and someone enters the discussion proudly wearing their OSR badge, it is very, very frequently paired with a defense of "how things were done" and "how this new stuff is just pandering" and the like.

If the OSR crowd could do a smidgeon more to take those folks to task when they crop up, stop supporting people like Pundit and his ilk, and perhaps actually take a stand, maybe, just maybe, the brush wouldn't be quite so broad.

I absolutely agree fans of the osr who aren’t jerks call out the bad actors. I certainly am doing all I can. And there are a lot of osr fans like me. Whole groups with social media groups and all gasp. But I very much disagree with your assertion that “if you don’t want to labeled as a bad person, you should do more to call it out.”

that rings too close to victim blaming, and at the very least shifts responsibility from you to not generalize people to the person you’re labeling as bad.

That’s never acceptable, regardless of the group or fandom, and has never gone over well. How about you just not blanket label everyone to begin with? The osr isn’t the Nazi party, you can’t just make assumptions about a persons character because they like older games

Now you are part of the problem, along with everyone on this site. Or pull out further, replace it with TTRPGs. In the greater gaming sphere, this is a particular issue in TTRPGs.

That's why I object to the labelling of the clown as "THAC0". Because it says "anyone who likes AD&D 2E is a gatekeeping clown". (and possibly AD&D 1E as well).

In Steading of the Hill Giant Chief, the fat, slovenly hill giant is called Nosnra. Which is a dig at Dave Arneson. (It's Arneson backwards, leaving out the e). It's not the only time Gary made fun of the co-creator of D&D. At least with that, there's no guessing required of who he's denigrating.

The term is too broad. Is it all OSR people who are a problem? No. So don't imply that it is. (Because I can find some incredibly problematic people in the 5E sphere as well).

Stating that because Gary was petty this must mean current d&d writers are just as petty isn’t a fair assessment.

And the presence of Thac0 isn’t saying anyone who likes AD&D is a gate keeping clown, you are inferring that and there’s a difference

What osr community? Have you been part of the communities? Because there are groups like OSR RPG that are extremely progressive (their FB background is a hex map pride flag), like 5e, but also like the OSR. What you’re saying is like saying modern gamers don’t like older versions or editions.
