Ascendant Dragon Monk's? I missed that one... cool name.
Ya it's the newest Monk subclass in Fizban's Treasury of Dragons book. It was in the UA that first showcased the new direction/update for Dragonborn in 5E. One of the cool things that people liked from the UA version was that some of the subclasses features had the PB affect how many times you could use em and then if you had used your alotted amount, then you could spend a Ki point or 4 ki points for one specific feature, ala using spell slots for the various later racial spells, to reuse the feature again. So you could choose to stretch yourself a bit, if you had to, before your next short/long rest.

Stunning Strike could probably benefit/solve issues by letting it key off that idea and then once you used up what ya had, THEN require you to spend Ki points to use it.

sounds identical to the solution in the Treant Monks video. Where you get your proficiency free of stunning strike then subsequently cost ki.

Ah okay. Nice. Ya unfortunately, from what many people say, the version of the Ascendant Dragon Monk subclass was nerfed where they apparently increased the amount of Ki needed for the PB usage/Ki point optional for features. among changing other things. I guess WoTC was thinking that 30 ft of Blindsight was game breaking enough apparently.

Honestly either use the UA version or have the UA version be an unlockable upgrade for the Way of the Ascendant Dragon Monk players.

Monks are pretty good - if you are actually judging the monk. But since it has no directly comparable class, you're often judging it against something else and it feel lackluster because the other class is better at what that class specializes in - like damage.

Levels 1-4 they are pretty awesome 2-3 attacks a round. (Which also unfortunately sets expectations that they are a DPR class.) After that they have enough ki and special abilities like like stunning fist and special movement that they are great action denial skirmishers. There isn't another class that can do things like lay three or four stuns on an opponent until they are stunned - even burning through a heap of legendary saves in the same round if needed.

Now, I have a problem with the Four Elements subclass - the ki costs are out-of-line with the other subclasses and with the amount of ki left over after doing base-class stuff vs. other classes who do special things.

I wish that monk (especially T1) wasn't so much at the mercy of the DM giving short rests in order to stay in line. Maybe those are places to touch.
