D&D 5E New (?) Info on the Rules expansion gift set.

I agree, but have you seen Fizbans dragonborn?
There's like 3 different tiers for Race/Subrace separation.
-Goblinoids and Gith are of the "Should be presented separate race entries"
-Elves and Dwarves are of the "Could be either way"
-Tieflings are of the "Just use a single race entry"

If that's anything to go by, Dragonborn are 3 races under the new rules. That won't make Tieflings into 8 or anything, but it could make them more than 1 or 2.

EDIT: I still think it could be 1. The variants are more similar to each of the DB breath weapon options than they are to the other differences between the 3 new DB-types. But who knows? Maybe they'll come up with more to differentiate them.

So how updated are we talking here? Like the new style shown off in the latest UA (ala Elves) or just like the usual suspects such as having the Wildemount/Eberron Orc and Kobold with the negative racial score removed?

No idea from them yet, but going by latest UA, I could see "Powerful Build" getting an update.

Fizbans templating, I'm quite sure every 'elf' will have its own entry.

Tiefling is example of how some races shouldn't have subraces to represent their varied abilities, with floating ability scores the only thing that differentiates the 8 new bloodlines is spell-like abilities. It should be like "here's some variant choices for Infernal Legacy"

On a flavour level it was a missed opportunity, they have these cool Tiefling subraces, but then lack the lore to back them up. They relied too heavily on the Nine Hells own lore, not enough on how each of the Tiefling subraces fit into it and various settings.

I don't know if they're gonna reprint every elf... I was thinking about this earlier. A lot of the subraces were there just because there WERE subraces in the game and they wanted to use the design space, others were there only to give flexible ASIs, that are also gone. So possibly in this book, and in the 2024 core books there will be a lot less same race variations to choose from.

I'm strongly of the idea Tieflings should be a Planetouched race of any Fiendish background (like they were before 4e) including Demons, Yugoloths, Hordelings, Night Hags, Demodands/Gehreleths, Rakshasa, etc or just a Lower Planar Radiation Mutation, so I feel they should either be one race with many "pick anyone of these options" or divided along Devil/Demon/Yugoloth/Etc lines.
