A suffusion of yellow
I just watched it yesterday and I really liked That it was set in the same universe but distinct from the original. An 80s style family drama was a nice way to bridge the 20 years and pass the torch from the granddads to the kids. The nostalgia trip was Fan service but also a great lore dump that allows a whole new series of stories

I liked it quite a bit - first time in a physical movie theater in 2 years.
I could've done without seeing the "force ghost" of Egon and just kept it at a more subtle level (like playing chess with his granddaughter).
I would've preferred Ivo Shandor being the main villain to bringing Gozer back.
So they only spoke about 1984's Ghostbusters. I guess they have removed Ghostbusters 2 from cannon? I think the only reference to anything from that movie was Ray's Occult Bookstore.

I think your second sentence contradicts the first.

Apparently there's a few GB2 references, though I didn't spot them.

When discussing the Manhattan disturbance of 1984, they didn't mention the 1989 animation of the Statue of Liberty. I would expect that would've made it into the history.
There’s lots of things they didn’t mention. But OK, if you insist that gb2 is now officially non-canon, I’ve no particular desire to persuade you otherwise.

(the director has said he wants to bring Vigo the Carpathian back, so he thinks it’s still canon).

Not saying that at all. I'd have preferred a little more connection to GB2 actually.
And I'd like seeing Vigo as well. My wife and I even met him in a bar a couple years ago.

They never addressed how the got it back again, apparently undamaged.

Maybe they made such a ****up of that that Egon had to repolarise the slime to erase everyone's memories of the event?

Got released here late due to Covid restrictions. Saw it today in the theatre and thought it was great. I'm terrible with names and only remember Phoebe's bit enjoyed all of the main cast and the right amount of fan service and use of original characters.

Would like to see future entries and no one moved until all the credits were done. Such a fun movie from start to finish.

Switching it up from NYC to Oklahoma was genius. Homage over retread. Loved the music at the end and the return to NYC.

Actors are very young as well gives them potentially decades for follow ups and passing the torch/mentors with the original characters.
