D&D 5E Different Methods for Rolling Ability Scores (8-15 range)

Horwath

Legend
7d2+1, (8-15) average 11,50
8d2+1, drop lowest, average 12
9d2+1, drop 2 lowest, average 12,5
10d2+1, drop 3 lowest, average 13

also, if you want to roll for "average" stats and still have 8-15, you can take 9d2+1, drop 2 highest for an average of 10,5.

It is made using the idea from @DEFCON 1, so you pick 2 cards from a selection of 12 cards (whose total value is the same as the total of ''point buy'' character's ability score) for each ability score, adding both of them to generate that score.

These are the name of some of the tarokka cards, and their value.

The Celtic cross spread is really more to add a theatrical flare to the whole process. You could just draw an ability card, then draw 2 cards from the pile of 12 cards to make a score.

But that's less cool :p
Ah, ok, I see now. Neat!

Yes.
Right now we are rolling 3d6 drop lowest +4. This gives values between 6 and 16.
I am looking for a more interesting alternate method that involves rolling.
Cool, I hope this gives you inspiration for it!

Do you want to keep the same range? Are you looking for a particular average or distribution type?

For instance, like I said in the OP, we want a rolling method that gives the same range as standard array and point-buy, but is non-linear (so not so swingy) and has an average close to those and the traditional 4d6-L (and might avoid charts LOL).
