What are your (up to) five favorite tunes?

Snarf Zagyg

Notorious Liquefactionist
I was about to roll my eyes and dismiss this as a sh*tpost when I saw who wrote it and it checks out. 😆

My posts get knocked down, but I write them again
You are never gonna keep Snarf down
My posts get knocked down, but I write them again
You are never gonna keep Snarf down

You are never gonna keep Snarf down

You are never gonna keep Snarf down

Snarf drinks a whiskey drink, Snarf drinks a vodka drink
Snarf drinks a lager drink, Snarf drinks a cider drink
Snarf writes the posts that remind us to kill bards and mimes
Snarf writes the posts that remind us of pizza topping crimes

Hmmm... Only five songs is a tall order. This is off the top of my head and this list could easily be totally different every time I was asked.

When the Levee Breaks - Led Zeppelin - 1971
Those drums...

The Mercy Seat - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - 1988
It was really tough to pick a single Nick Cave song as he's one of my favorite artists. Special mention as well to his rendition of Staggerlee, especially the live version.

Number of the Beast - Iron Maiden - 1982

Master of Puppets - Metallica - 1986
I guess I'm in a metal mood.

So What - Ministry - 1989
Had to have some industrial representation on here. This one's a tie with the Red Line White Line version of Jesus Built My Hot Rod also by Ministry.

I had that on my Cyberpunk mix tape that I played in the background when I ran CP2020 back in college in 1991. It felt (still feels) very cyberpsycho to me.

No love for Thieves? Just One Fix??!!!??

One of my "Top 20 time I came closest to death" involved a Ministry concert, a mosh pit, and fire.
Both great choices as well. If I hadn't already snuck two extra songs into my list I might have called them out as well. As it is I regret not having included some KMFDM, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, and Pigface tracks.

My most-played tracks of 2021 on Spotify are:

"Small Town Moon" (Regina Spector, What We Saw From the Cheap Seats, 2012)
"It Ain't Over Till The Wasp Lady Stings" (Christophe Beck, Ant-Man and The Wasp, 2018)
"Arthropodie" (Christophe Beck, Ant-Man and The Wasp, 2018)
"Cry To Me" (Solomon Burke, Rock 'N Soul, 1964)
"Ain't Misbehavin'" (Fats Waller, If You Got To Ask, You Ain't Got It!, 1926)

If I were to cobble together my own list, it might be something like:

"Sowing The Seeds of Love" (Tears for Fears, The Seeds of Love, 1989)
"God Only Knows" (The Beach Boys, Pet Sounds, 1966)
"People Get Ready" (I honestly can't decide which version I like best, but the original by The Impressions, from People Get Ready, 1965 is as good as any)
"Blue Moon Revisited" (Cowboy Junkies, The Trinity Sessions, 1988)
"Maggie May" (Rod Stewart, Every Picture tells A Story, 1971)

These are both setting aside classical music and film scores (except for one in the Spotify list), which is a whole other ball of wax.

Heh: "wax". Records. Get it?
