D&D 5E What Level is the Wizard vs. the Fighter?

Not as an Olympian. That's a fact as you cannot be super successful as an Olympian without winning medals. It's only super successful as an athlete in general.

Yeah, you're just one of the pinnacles of humanity with medals from multiple other national and international events, but not the one for national vanity. What a loser they are.

'Olympian' is not even a thing people are, it's just something people call the participants in an event that only happens once every few years. They are athletes competing in their athletic specialty. And even those usually have to be amateurs. I have nothing but respect for Olympic-level athletes and narrowing their achievements to one event is an insult to them.

This is also a Strawman of what I said. Nothing I said can be construed to narrowing their achievements to the Olympics.

no I reject this entire concept... you are nothing but a success and this ricky bobby "if your not first your last" is such an alien thought process...

It's a question of a) context and b) expectations.

Take world football. Canada is about to qualify* for the men's World Cup for only the second time ever, which within the context of Canadian football is a great success. Once they get there, any further success is sheer gravy.

Contrast this with the Canadian women's team, who expect to qualify every time and consider it a failure if, once there, they don't at least come close to winning the whole thing.

* - it's not quite a mathematical lock yet but the odds of qualifying are well over 99% as it stands now.

D&D is in even more rarefied air than our women's team, to the point where - despite Pathfinder's best attempts - most of the time the only comparitive metric to measure success is against its own prior self and in context of the times those prior selves existed.

I voted 1 and 8.... I feel that a 20th level fighter brings about the same amount of utility as an 8th level wizard... and a 9th or 10th level wizard CAN in the right set of encounters deal out more damage... so the one thing fighters are best at can be taken away...

Fighter 1 = Wizard X
Fighter 10 = Wizard Y
Fighter 20 = Wizard Z
