Sorry, I'm behind on my D&D news. What recent events?

Cubicle 7, the publishers of the Dr Who RPG announced they will be publishing a 5E version of the property. This caused a lot of internet scuttle about the suitability of the 5E system for that property and the market position of D&D, and related topics. There are several recently started threads related to this.

Answered my own question by looking through the other threads with the Dr. Who and Winninger tweet.

I still think that it's a strange question. Every table is very different, and finds D&D enjoyable at different proportions of combat. There are tables who will pick up Wild Beyond the Witchlight and play like pacifists, no combat at all.

Right now, the poll shows a plurality (21%) think D&D is 41-50% combat. Ok... but that means 79% thinks it's more or less.

I guess I'm just a little frustrated as the poll question, and the topic overall, seems designed to divide us into camps arguing over the "optimal" way to play D&D. So I'm not sure it's really helping or contributing to the Dr. Who stuff in a positive way.

Now that’s a strange thing to say.

I assure you I did not design the poll to divide you into camps arguing over the ‘optimal’ way to play D&D. That seems like a weird and malicious thing to do.

Yeah I didn't think that was your intent. But I think that may be the inevitable end of this thread... I'm hoping not! I guess you're just curious as to how much combat people have at their own table?

To be fair sometimes I think that you could post a poll on whether people like cheese or not and by page 5 there would be someone trying to start an edition war...

I aim to run high adventure games with lots of action, but I've been surprised in recent months to see across all 3 of my campaigns stretches were we've gone 2 or 3 sessions without a fight and barely any dice rolled. I think this is a byproduct of leaning more into intrigue. Players are spending their time untangling the plot, uncovering NPC motivations, and planning countermoves.
